My wife and I decided it was time to take a few days away from the work and kids and go to Vegas. I did my research and found great reviews for this hotel. I was a little hesitant about it due to never hearing about it and the fact that it was off the strip. I have stayed at the Mirage and the Golden Nugget and think that this hotel is just a good or better.
Check-in was a breeze. The personnel were very helpful and accommodating. I requested a room above the 12th floor with a view of the strip and he that gave it to me no questions asked. Also at check-in, the hotel gives you one on of those coupon books, which had several coupons we used (free drinks, etc).
The room was large and clean. The bathroom was spotless and also quite large. Housekeeping did a great job everyday and worked around our vacation schedule to be as non-evasive as possible.
The casino was large and had plenty of table games. An advantage of staying off the strip was the table limits were lower than on the strip. I saw a craps game with a $3 minimum and found several blackjack tables with a $5 minimum. Roulette was usually a $1 minimum. I did find something I had never seen before
..penny slots. There were lots of nickel and quarter slots as well. One draw back was that the casino was pretty smoky; however it wasnt anymore than most other casinos we went into.
A minor complaint I have with this hotel is the buffet. Lets be honest, buffets are easiest and a common choice with most travelers to Vegas. The buffet was very popular but the food was just average. I will say that the buffet did offer many choices but it remained pretty much the same most days. The buffet was quite crowded on the weekend and one time we had to stand in line for approximately 20 minutes. We did eat at the Mexican restaurant in the hotel and it was pretty good and affordable.
One of the best benefits this casino offers is the free shuttle service to the other Coast hotels. One (the Barbary Coast) just happens to be in the middle of the strip (next to Ballys and across from Caesars Palace). We utilized this shuttle many times and usually only had to wait approximately 10-15 minutes. This saved us lots of taxi trips and $$$.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for the reasons listed above. The hotel is much more affordable than strip hotels. If you dont mind waiting for the shuttle or have a rental car, this is a no-brainer. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.
