Pros:great customer service, clean comfortable rooms with nice amenities, proximity to restaurants and entertainment
Cons:stupid tricky door, out of complimentary replacement items
The Bottom Line: The Hampton Inn provided a clean comfortable room, good service and hearty breakfast at a reasonable price. If you're in Macon or passing through, I recommend it.

I just returned from a weekend trip to Macon visiting family. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), there was not enough room for us to stay at our relative's house. They are heavy smokers and the smell gets to us. We allowed them to set us up in a hotel nearby and they chose the Hampton Inn for us.

Now I didn't expect much from the hotel. A clean comfortable room is really all I need. Being that this is essentially a roadside motel along I-75, I wasn't sure if I'd even get that. I was pleasantly surprised! When we arrived, check in was fast and friendly. We got two rooms, 117 & 119. The rooms were clean and well maintained. Parking was abundant, but it did not seem as if the hotel was at full capacity either. It was basic setup - double bed, desk, lounge chair. The pillows on the bed were fantastic. I was considering trying to steal one to take home. :)

There were many amenties I didn't expect. The Hampton Inn provided a lap desk (for working while laying on the bed), high speed internet and gym. Although I did not use the high speed internet, it was supposed to be free. The gym is not onsite - Hampton Inn provides you with a complimentary membership to the Golds Gym about a mile away.

The location is quite central. There is a plethora of restaurants, fast food and casual dining, within walking distance. There is also a movie theatre and a couple grocery stores very close by. I will say that the location is not convenient to downtown. It is probably another 10-15 minute drive to the downtown area.

One thing I particularly enjoyed was the complimentary deluxe breakfast served. It was better than continental but not full out buffet. They provided eggs, breakfast meat, biscuits, bagels & pastries, yogurt, fruit as well as juice and some very good coffee. There are attendants there during the breakfast to assist and they were extremely friendly and helpful. The staff in general was always helpful and in a good mood.

The one thing I did not like about the Hampton Inn was the door to our room. I tended to have trouble opening it. The trick was to slide the card in, turn the knob slightly, pull then push the door open. I never quite figure it out but that could have been just our room or me. The Hampton Inn also did boast that it provide complimentary replacement items such as toothbrush, combs, razor, etc. if forgotten. I forgot my comb so I went to request one and was told they were out.

Other than that, it was a pleasant stay at the Hampton Inn. I would recommend staying here as it was a reasonably price choice. You will received a clean comfortable room with good service for a fair price, which is all you can really ask for in a hotel.
