Pros: Comfort, Muscle, Reliability, Value Retention.
Cons: Gas Mileage, 4 Wheel drive binding, Extra Luxory
The Bottom Line: Well worth it, besides, the value retention is very high, so you can sell it fairly quickly without taking a hit in the walet, if you need too.
mothergoose's Full Review: 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck
Recently, I've purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab, with the 6-foot bed, painted gold, hense the nickname "The Nugget". It's got the Hemi, the tow package, the expanded tow/haul features which includes a secondary radiator for the tow/haul mode.
Being a larger male (6'2" 250lbs.), the space inside the truck is more then ample. Occasionally, it feels as though the truck is even to large for me. The back seats move quickly and easily for storing and hauling inside the truck. However the seats can tend to be uncomfortable for the long trips, as the backs of the seats are flush upright with the back of the cab. The seats are arranged in a standard 70/30 arrangement, leaving room for one passanger, and one...keg of beer per say.
The cabin offers a "manly" feel, and provides comfort and practicality, however don't expect the finer comforts without paying a little extra for them. The truck offers a huge center console with a power adapter that runs even when the truck is off, which is nice for hiding and charging cell phones at the same time. The console folds to reviel the center bench in the front seat, which folds up again, showing a more hidden center console (Console Jr. I suppose.)
My fears of the 6 foot bed being too short, have never been fulfilled. I've always had more then enough space to do what I need to do in the truck.
As a negative, don't let a dealer tell you your going to be getting 15+ MPG (Miles Per Gallon). I average more around 13 MPG. The 25 Gallon gas tank can empty quickly when running normal errands.
The truck tends to get squimmish in the heavy rain and snow. The 4-wheel drive "on the fly" quickly remedies this problem. However parking and manuvering in a tight spot in 4-wheel drive can be hard as the binding causes the truck to bounce and hop a bit.
I strongly recommend running boards or nerf bars because without them getting into the truck can be tricky. There are enormious amounts of after market truck mods that can be done to this vehicle.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this truck. After my Jeep Grand Cherokkee, it has been a transition however 350 HP helps that a lot. Driving feels sporty, but large specifically on turns. Speaking of turns, this truck does that to heads...a lot.
