The Rhine - River Of Many Faces!
by whalewatcher | Jul 02 '01
A romantic journey along the scenic Rhine, Germany's most famous river, is an unforgettable experience. Majestic castles, quaint medieval towns, lush vineyards and steep mountains - a sight to behold!

And, a lovely review. I feel I now know the route from "Mainz... along the Rhine to Koblenz, take a sharp left and continue ...along the Moselle River." Claudia, I actually envisioned my trip, the sights I'd see, the people on the river, the "feel" of everything.

Thanks for such a scenic review!

What an interesting and descriptive review! (Reply to this comment)

While I've traveled along the Rhine at its origin near the Disentis in the Swiss alps, this stretch of the Rhine is particularly charming--there's no other river quite like it, rich in history, ancient castles, and vineyards. Thanks for rekindling my memories of those trips I made north!

Hi Barbara,

We might have to bring along a good bottle of 'Riesling' in September! You picked a beautiful area for your 3 years in Germany, I'm working on a review of Garmish as I'm writing this. The problem is how to adequately describe it! As always, thanks for reading!

I lived in Germany for 3 years in the early 60's? We lived right beside the Main River, in Wurtzburg, on the Romantic Road. It was an incredible experience and we loved exploring all the towns and cities near and far..
Looks like we have a lot more in common than our love of whales!!
Can't wait till we meet in Sept and have a couple of glasses of wine, maybe they will have a good Moselle or Rhine wine we can toast with.....
Loved your review.

Oh, it only gets better from there (Strasbourg, that is). The Rhine changes drastically from the South to the North. The central part is the most beautiful, mostly because of the lack of any major industry there, which makes it much more quaint. Hope you get to visit some day. I'm beginning to realize that I won't live long enough to go to all the wonderful places I'm reading about on this site!!!!

Thanks Ken,
It's really something that must be seen to believe it. I didn't know you lived in Germany for so many years and am glad to hear you have lots of great memories. I, for one, don't regret having grown up there and wouldn't change it for anything!

Hello Claudia,

As an Air Force Brat I spent almost 6 years in Germany when I was kid and enjoyed it immensely - especially as my dad was raised there (in the Black Forest). Your review of the river is right on. It is truly magnificent, with castles (both ruined and whole) on every single hilltop! For those who have never been, I highly recommend a trip to Germany. It is a wonderful place!

Thanks for bringing back memories.

I will never forget the Rhein for my rest life! (Reply to this comment)

I biked along my Rhein (I don't want to write the river as Rhine) to Lahnstein near Koblenz. It was so marvelous that I can't and won't forget the memory for my rest life. Some day I would like to bike along the river Moselle too when I can be in Germany again. I am sure that it will happen in some years. While reading this epinion I felt as if I were in Germany. Thanks for the superb panorama you described.

What a wonderfully informative and fascinating review!! I have never been to Germany, but skirted the western shore of part of the Rhine last year on our way to Strasbourg, and it was lovely.
As always, I really enjoyed your review!
