Posthumanbeing's Guide To A Body Wrap Spam-Mailing
by posthumanbeing | Jul 04 '01
A gleeful mockery of a spamming so moronic that I'll probably never be able to convince you that I DIDN'T make it up.

"Hello!?! My Name's Michelle!" (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
My goddaughter got one of those things about how to increase the size of your penis, and she thought it was so funny that she sent it to everyone on her e-mail list with the response of "Hello!?! My name's Michelle!" (or something along those lines).

Oh yes! Sorry to disappoint you, but I looove those exclamation points!!!

And I really should go into the lose-pounds-and-inches racket.

!!!!!!!!!!!!LOSE POUNDS AND INCHES IN SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why even wait as long as overnight when you can lose weight right now by following the directions exactly--VERY SIMPLE DIRECTIONS!!!--that will be sent to you in the complimentary tote-bag I'll be sending your way for sending me your check, money-order, or (better yet) your credit card number along with enough information that I can make it my own!!!

If you were to send me $500, here's what you would get--besides the tote-bag.

Contents of the tote-bag would be a one-page letter:

Here is the ancient secret for losing weight that has been known about in South America for generations:

piranhas

Go to an exotic fish store and purchase a few of these bloodthirsty fish.

Fill your bathtub with comfortably-warm water, and turn them loose in there.

Get in there with them, and you will be found by whomever comes to check on you when your mail and newspapers start piling up, and they will be amazed at how much weight you've lost--not to mention what a big, wide grin you'll be wearing!!!

You will be perfect for landing a modeling job in any anatomy classroom where you can be guaranteed to hang around for a very long time!

To Your Health!!!

It was much more than "vaguely amusing" ... (Reply to this comment)

and you're definitely not a waste of skin (yikes - now there's a turn of phrase that stays with you): I'll check out some of your other work, as I'm a sucker for a good sense of humor.

The reason for the SH rating is, I think, clear: the actual helpful advice on how to avoid spam email is pretty minimal here. But you know that.

» How to Prevent Spam Email with prevention being the key word I would have added just a few helpful hints at the end on how to prevent spam.
This is why I gave you a helpful and not a VH.
I bumped you up after I finished reading because I realized that this was the best laugh I have had in a long time here at Epinions. I will have to read some more of your reviews.

Well I gave you a Very Helpful - (Reply to this comment)

How could I not? It was such fun to read! And you are so right, every time I click on remove, the e-mail always bounces back to me with either a full mailbox or unknown. I usually just delete them. For the truly offensive ones I add them to my blocked list. Great article, please write more.

to think I've been deleting spam email and missing

Catharsis is a wonderful tool... (Reply to this comment)

...and you were hysterically funny, which is why I slightly bumped my rating up. I've probably offended the Epinions pantheon by doing so, but such moves are liberating, right? Nice work.

Best,

Re: Sorry+for+the+SH (Reply to this comment)

Don't worry about it. It's probably more important to be fascinating and entertaining than highly-rated, anyway. ;)

It's true that I could have written more about actually fighting spam (www.spamcop.com, filters, using multiple email addresses, reporting to abuse@wherever.com, recognizing urban legends, etc), but the best essays here already cover that so well, and there's little (if anything) I could have added to them. I doubt it would have been worth reading an opinion that just rehashes what everyone else has already said - especially since I'm not good enough to do it better than some of these other writers here - so I decided to go a route that the average user might still enjoy.

While that doesn't really change anything, it might show you my reasoning here.

Sorry for the SH (Reply to this comment)

Sorry for the SH. It was a fascinating and entertaining review but it didn't actually give me an advice on how to prevent spam. I do like your style and I'll continue reading your work.
