Dell notebooks are a good value.
Jul 03 '01
The Bottom Line Though Dell notebooks don't offer near the quality, style or perks of IBM Thinkpads, they offer good power and functionality for the price.
Contrary to what you may have heard, Dell notebooks are not the best. They are much better than the notebooks of most companies. Gateway, Compaq, Fujitsu, nor HP are built as well or have as many features as Dells models. Dell makes GOOD notebooks, but they are not the best. They aren't as stylish as Sony Vaios. Dell notebooks in general are bigger and bulkier than similar models by Sony. But Dell notebooks have more features than Sony. If I were to pick between a Dell and a Sony, it would be a toss up.
No notebook company, however, builds notebooks as well as IBM. No notebooks are built as well as IBM Thinkpads. They don't have all the little touches that separate Thinkpads from other notebooks. IBM Thinkpads are the best notebooks on the market. They are also the most expensive.
The old saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind here. If you want the best, get and IBM. If you want the most for your money, get a Dell.
The majority of people I know will say Dell makes the best laptops. They are misinformed. IBM makes the best laptops. Dell makes the best laptops for those on a budget.
