A couple things. Toshiba actually has the best built laptops. Through 2000, they had won the best built toughest laptop award for 6 years in a row.
Also, take a look at the latest Fujitsu laptop. The Metallic 6000 series. For the price, they are feature rich and beat Dell hands down.
IBM has some great new 1 Ghz units out with the Athlon chipset as low as $1299. That seems to be their new route. More speed, less features.
Check into it.
