WalMart and I have had some pleasant and some not-so-pleasant experiences in the past. I'm never impressed with the quality of the actual store, that is, the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness, etc. However, they offer decent products at the lowest prices around, so sometimes I have no choice but to stop by for anything other than clothing (which is of below par quality).
While I'm partial to the physical store, I am a fan of Walmart.com. Because I was too lazy to go the actual store and look for it, I decided to order Flying High at the online store.
The Site:
When first getting to Walmart.com, you'll be asked if you would like to subscribe to their Email notifier, which offers discounts to shoppers. I respectfully declined. Once you exit out of the little pop-up box, you can select one of the following categories: electronics, movies, music, books, toys, baby, jewelry, sports, for the home, garden & patio, photo center, video games, apparel, gifts & flowers, pharmacy, or fitness. I especially like the feature that allows you to see all departments.
Because I knew what I wanted, I simply went to the "Search" bar and typed in "Flying High." In just a few seconds, the page loaded and I had to scroll down a bit to find the actual book. In fact, there were over 140 items with the name "Flying High," so when you type in your Search option, try narrowing it down as much as possible so that you don't have to spend a year trying to find the product you actually want.
The price of the product is listed on the Search page. My book cost just over $15 which is reasonable. Once clicking on the product, a description is available, and also one can also check if the item is in-stock or on backorder. When looking for books, you can also type in the name of the author and see all books by that person -- yet another cool feature in my opinion.
I clicked on the "Add to Cart" button, and then proceeded to check-out with the one item I had. The total cost came out to $17 and change as shipping was $2. At least WalMart doesn't charge you for "handling," which in my opinion, is the most ludicrous thing that a company can charge you for. Handling at other websites usually adds another $3 to the shipping cost, which is ridiculous...
I entered all the credit card info, etc., and received a confirmation email letting me know that the credit card was accepted and that my order was on its way. And it was, indeed, on its way. Within four (business) days, I had the book in hand. It arrived via UPS and was packaged securely; I had to use a knife to cut the package open. Thankfully, the book was in perfect condition with absolutely no pages bent or anything of that nature. Tucked in front page was a receipt, which I didn't find a use for.
My Thoughts:
When it comes down to what WalMart.com needs to do, they deliver. The layout of the site is easy to navigate as it's well organized and does not have a million different links to click on. The prices are similar to that of the WalMart store, and I really thought that $15 for Flying High was a decent price to pay. My book arrived right on time and in perfect condition. I never had to call-in to customer service because everything went flawlessly.
Would I recommend WalMart.com? Yes, in a heartbeat.
