Pros: powerful microsoft database program for servers

Cons: not to be used on a consumer application, spendy and bulky

The Bottom Line: If running a web server, this would be my choice. it's powerful. Anything it lacks in security should be improved shortly since Microsoft went into the security software business

I checked out this database as a possibility to storing the huge chunks of data my application ships with.

There are a certain few thinks I really like about this database system. First of all, it is beautifully integrated in visual studio.net 2003. Secondly, It seems to work really nicely on what it was designed for - Installing on a server and host some databases. You can then use those databases in many handy ways. Access them, from your Pocket PC, Access them from your web site. Massive possibilities here.

I quickly decided not to use it, though. My application was supposed to seamlessly install all its required drivers and other applications required for runtime. Although that can be accomplished, it is very bulky and you have to add the cost of your final application.

I wanted to build a consumer application and this database system was simply not designed to be used by a typical Windows user.

Also, the data my application ships with should not be available to the user or computer owner. I wanted to be able to protect it so only my application can view the data. This is not possible using this database. The user can log in on the database as the administrator and do with my database whatever he/she wants. Thats why I decided to go against it.
