Need advice on riding a minibike, this one is for you Josh!Jul 04 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line Just be safe, aware, and have fun. HOW TO RIDE A MINIBIKE The first thing you got to do is start the engine. Then ride really fast. Make sure that you brake and pull on the gas when trying to stop. Do not stop at the stop signs. Make sure that you run over stuff. When you fall, always try to make it hard. One more thing, don’t wear a helmet! Well those would be the directions my friend Josh Reno would suggest. When I went over to my friend’s house to hang around on my minibike, I decided that I should let my friends ride it. All my friends there were 14-16 years old and I'd figure that there wouldn't be problems with letting them ride it. Everyone rode it around the large block like 2 times and then I let my friend Josh ride it. I figured since he was 15 years old and had a driving permit that he could ride my minibike. He is also short and small so I thought it would be really easy for him to rid it. When we waved at him as a signal to stop or pull into the driveway, he began to pull on the throttle and the brakes at the same time. He ended up doing a power slide and damaged the rear rim of a friend's bicycle. He fell off and was ok but got a few scratches from his fall. We would make fun of him for the rest of the day, ahahahhahahahhaa. Now how do you really ride a minibike? First thing is first Make sure that you have the proper safety equipment on hand. I wear a helmet even if the minibike can only go 35mhp. A flying car can still hit me or a 1-ton engine could fall off a 777 flying 2 miles high in the sky to land on my head. I might live if I wear a helmet. Get comfortable You must be certain that you are comfortable with the controls of your minibike. You need to learn how to bank into curves at a sufficient angle. You might taper the turn and ride into someone's lush lawn or get hit by an oncoming car in the opposite lane. You should learn the limits of your minibike. I know that I can't stop to a halt in 0.99 seconds from a speed of 30mhp. You should understand that you can't ride on the highway or something like that. Know your role I usually ride through dead neighborhood streets rather than on the busier roads. If I have to take a busy road, I usually ride slowly on the sidewalk, ride on the dirt, or make sure that it is clear. When riding on a minibike and even a motorcycle, you have to make sure to look for yourself and others. It is hard for automobiles to see you most of the time while riding a minibike. Many people get surprised and loose attention when they see you riding a minibike. They might be scared of you or they might run into something else. You should always be courteous to traffic on the road even if it's on a small street. I always let myself know that everyone has the right of way before me. I don't have as much power as a car and I don't have as many rights as a pedestrian. When I have fast traffic veering my way, I usually merge into the sidewalk so that they could drive by. Occasionally a driver will give you a rude face when they pass by you on the sidewalk. Try not to cause trouble, as it is better to put up with it. Some people think that you're an article of danger. Don't try and show off If you happen to see some people walking around, don't try and show that you are special. When riding a minibike, you need to pay attention to cars and the road. You might injure yourself if you don't pay attention. To me, a minibike is a tool for getting places that are further with less effort. Riding a minibike takes more mental labor than physical labor. The police When riding your minibike, you might want to watch out for police. Once when I was on a corner and a cop on the other side stopped and offered me to cross the street first. I thought about it for a second and I knew that he did this purposely so that he could follow me. This goes for other cars too. Even if it's like an old lady driving the car, don't trust them if they let you go. Most of the time the police won't bother you if you ride your minibike proficiently. Just make sure that you have a good helmet on and a good attitude. That is the key to getting places safely on your minibike. Minibikes are also fun to ride. |
