Pros: Cheapest service, free DVR, bunny ears are fine, use with DSL and Netflix
Cons: Have to think of something to do with the extra $60 you save monthly
The Bottom Line: Dish is the cheapest video service you will find and the only one with a free DVR, don't waste your money on cable

| coolp3's Full Review: EchoStar 5000 Digital Satellite System |
I don't have a review for this box. I am not even sure which box I have. I just have a review of the service in general. Why did I pick Dish? Price. They are the cheapest. It was $25 but now it's $30. This is the still the best price you will find.
There are lots of plans but a few things. First, I don't get local. You can probably find deals but I am fine with the bunny ears. Something you don't hear about bunny ears. 1. The quality is great. Better than I think you get with digital. 2. You get almost 10 more stations. At least I did.
I don't subscribe to any movie stations but that's because I use Netflix. With Netflix there is simply no need to paying HBO or Starz. I know if you do the math you could save more on cable and cable internet but I use DSL which is just $25. I had Comcast and paid over $100.
I went to Dish, Netflix and DSL and I pay half and I have more On Demand type features. I get any movie I want with Netflix weeks before it comes On Demand not $5 per view. DSL is fast enough for me and its probably fast enough for you. You don't need 4 Terra bits or whatever.
The Dishplayer, the Echostar, Dish Network DVR is great. Why? It's free. That's right I got it free. I have read reviews of Tivo and ReplayTV and I am fine without the features. Besides I am getting a Media Center soon so I will have a lot of the great new features like compressing video to put on portable devices.
Up time is fine. It goes out in a storm but it's not as bad as some Comcast commercials I have seen made it out to be. If you have a problem, it's a bad install. I use the DVR anyway. So I hardly ever care if it goes out for a few minutes.
The install is free too. They were not a few years ago and I hated that idea but I got it free. You should not have to pay for anything. Maybe a few months in a advance but that's it. From what I saw of the install, I think I could have done it and it might have been fun.
I don't think the dish is ugly too. I think it looks cool. I cannot think of anything negative at all. I am for the cheapest best technology and Dish has the best and the cheapest. They are 100% digital which is great. On screen TV Guides. Some ITV stuff you will probably ignore like me.
There are some channels you might not get but all my favorites where there. I guess I should be balanced but I cannot think of anything. This is the best. $30 for video. I wish cable still had this option. Paying over $100 for TV and Internet for me is just nuts.
