The Bottom Line Pick what you like, the most expensive stick isn't always the best stick.
Throughout a young and older lax player the stick is the one thing you depend on. A stick is like your little baby, you want to take care of it and love it forever. This can only go so far. Some have sticks that go for 30 dollars, others upwards to 250 dollars. To pick which one is right for you here is some guidelines. The head- The head is the top part of a stick with the stringing in it. For a starting player a good stick could be a laser high wall or an oz, these are durable sticks that help get the player going, nice and flexible for ground balls and accurate for throwing and shooting. For an older and more experienced player an edge which is the leading seller in mens lacrosse sticks, others very good heads include an excalibur and a proton both by stx. And for the big time player could consider a blade or an x2. But the head can only do so much. Offset sticks are a good idea for easy scooping and cradling. But some of the "new school" stringing such as a rocket pocket, pita pocket, or a torpedo are big changes. I've only heard good things from these, so if you want to get your game at the top you should choose a stick that you think is right, for the lower price, the high wall with some soft mesh, a higher level and a little more expensive around 55 dollars an excalibur or a brine vapor with some hard mesh with a "v" pocket. For an expert a blade or an x2 with monster mesh or a pita pocket for upwards of 80 dollars. Choose wisely. The handle- The handle or shaft is easier, for a little one a good choice would be an f-10 by brine or an al6000 from about 10-20 dollars. Again for someone in the middle of the road a good choice of a cu31 or an f-15 are very good and durable as heck, these go for around 35-40. But for the big boys a good choice of a c405 of an f-22 go for about 60. But theres more an f-55 bulletproof metal is a very good shaft. But the king of them all would be a titanium classic by warrior which go for around 100. But for our defensemen its a little more expensive where you could add anywhere from 10-50 from the price previously stated. Many sticks get compared everyday and it doesn't really matter too much on the head or the shaft the most important thing is that your you shouldn't care bout what kids say, it about what you like. And with all this new stuff its all about preference choose what you like and stay with it and you'll do fine. |
