The Bottom Line Here they are, my 1960 Top Ten List. Any one of these movies are a bonafide good time, of course you might think differently, but it's my list.

Being a child of the 60's (I was born in 1961) this list is my personal top ten recommendations from this era. The honorable mentions are also worth a look. I didn't think picking ten movies from the 60's would be difficult, but that goes to show what I know. I could add many more to this list, enjoy.

First the Honorable Mentions: The Hustler (1961); What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)
; The Pink Panther (1963); Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964); Goldfinger (1964); Mary Poppins (1964); The Sound of Music (1965); Help! (1965); Fantastic Voyage (1966); Midnight Cowboy (1969).

1. Psycho (1960) - Sure there are parts of this movie that are a little cheesy, but the shower scene is a masterpiece of a directors subtle stroke and Anthony Hopkins is the first the best and the only Norman Bates. Please Hollywood, no more remakes! This movie can still produce chills for me and I highly recommend it.

2. The Birds (1963) - The first time I saw this movie I wanted to shoot all the birds before they could get me. That feeling passed, but this movie will make you view our feathered friends differently. I don't want to shoot them anymore and I definitely don't want to make them mad.

3. It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) - If you see the movie Rat Race (2001), it is a remake of this movie and while it might be funny, this movie is well worth a look. There are cameos of actors that I haven't seen in years and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I will own it when I can find it.

4. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) - How could this movie be made in 1967 was my question. At the height of racial tensions in the 60's, a white woman brings her black boyfriend home for dinner; I had to see this movie. I was entertained and amazed at the way Hollywood handled this issue in a rather benign way. Take a look at it and let me know what you think.

5. The Graduate (1967) - Mrs. Robinson, are you trying to seduce me? Dustin Hoffman speaks this line and it is just one of the many wonderful moments in The Graduate. I watched this movie a couple of month's ago and I think that even today the moments will all ring true.

6. Cool Hand Luke (1967) - How many eggs do you think you could eat, if you had to? There is a scene in this movie where Paul Newman as Cool Hand Luke eats egg after egg, to win a bet. I normally don't like prison movies, but how could you not like the movie that originated the line; "A man has got to know his limitations".

7. Bonnie and Clyde (1967) - What would you do for love? Would you rob banks, for love? Would you give up your life for love? I think Bonnie and Clyde go a little too far, but Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty make it all work. Romance, danger and a little violence, it's all good and worth the time spent.

8. Planet of the Apes (1968) - All of the Planet of The Ape movies are classics in the Sci-Fi genre and they are just great movies. If you get the chance to see them, before the new Planet of The Apes, they are well worth the viewing and this one; the first is the absolute best.

9. Night of the Living Dead (1968) - This is just the kind of cheesy horror flick that I grew out of ages ago, but this one is still worth a look. I like to compare it to a recent cheesy movie The Blair Witch Project (1999). If I had to choose between the two movies, Night of The Living Dead wins, hands down.

10. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) - The original buddy picture comedy, drama and romance. This movie has it all, not only should you see it, you should own it, okay it's a western, but it's much much more than that.
