Impertinent Thoughts on Pertinent Subjects II

The Bottom Line Back by popular demand...more of what's up in the music industry

*I get to see Tom Petty Sunday night...everything I've heard about him live has been extremely positive...I shall rock out, and I shall review it

*Fred Durst is whining again, this time because supposedly Staind haven't talked to him in a while...this makes me wonder since he directed their latest video, so how long ago could it have been? Oh yeah, if anyone sees Durst, tell him to get in touch with the half a million or so fans he left hanging when he became the biggest egomaniac in the world

*Once again, money is at the center of an issue and the fans get screwed...this time it's 120 tapes of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain material...this includes the band's first ever performance, unreleased demos, and stuff that was recorded before Kurt started Nirvana...Dave Grohl and Courtney Love need to stop b*tching and just release it, ALL of it

*The Backstreet Boys are here in Boston this week...joy. You know, it's one thing to add shows after you sell out the ones you originally put on sale (a la U2 here in June), but to put more shows on sale when the first 2 aren't sold out yet is just dumb, moronic and plain stupid. 5 nights at the Fleetcenter, god help all of Boston.

*speaking of the BSB, I wonder how many of them will go on to have solo careers once BSB break up after this tour

*Uncle Kracker is the single most annoying artist on the face of God's green earth...yes, even more annoying than Britney or Dee Sny..I mean Christina

*3 Doors Down was just certified quintuple platinum (read:5 million units shipped)...am I the only one who finds this disturbing?

*Am I the only one who thinks that dude from Linkin Park sounds EXACTLY like Beavis? "Everything you say to me..." I can honestly see Beavis in his classic pose singing those lines.

*To clarify a point in my last essay: yes, bootleggers suck. People who tape shows for the express purpose of profitting off of said shows SUCK...people who tape shows because they love music and love spreading music around for as close to free as possible (read: AT COST) are the sh*t. In the words of the Pearl Jam community, it should be all about "spreading the jam"

*Creed told MTV this week that their new album would have the same impact as U2's all time classic, The Joshua Tree...truth be told I don't think Creed is THAT bad of a band, but between Scott Stapp's ridiculous poses and the fact that they continue to run their mouths with ridiculous comments, is it any wonder they won't be around in 3 years? Creed creating something as awe-inspiring as The Joshua Tree, that's truly rich.

*Thank God Sevendust has a new album coming out in a couple months...I have complete confidence in them still carrying the lone torch for "new metal" and doing it well

*I can't go see Radiohead due to a lack of funds...very depressing...Warped Tour is out as well because of work...at least I have Reel Big Fish on July 14th...hope they play the lesbian song

*The quality on the Black Crowes downloads of their 2001 shows is far less than stellar...great idea, but it still needs to have all the kinks ironed out

*Puff Daddy or P Diddy or whatever the hell his name is is saying his new song is gonna be the "song of the summer"...yeah right, just like you were gonna be around Forever with your last record...take a hint...you have no talent, no arrangement skills, no lyric skills, you SUCK...end of story

*by the way, the song of the summer is SmashMouth's I'm A Believer from the Shrek soundtrack

*any band that can only get video/radio airplay from making a metal version of a Michael Jackson song doesn't deserve to actually be named by name...instead I'll just state they are just as bad as every other quasi rap-metal band out there today

*just a quick note to members of Aerosmith's fan club: excuse me while I laugh at you for how you thought that your favorite band actually CARED about you...for god's sakes people, they played with N'sync and Britney Spears!!!

that's it for me for now
