| planetrjl's Full Review: Jack Lalanne 10091 Power Juicer |
There have been many juicers in my kitchen. I've had the gamut: Juiceman, Breville, Sunbeam, Black & Decker, and more that's in too distant of memory.
The first thing that I noticed was the quiet operation. Almost all juicers I've had before sound like a motorcycle when turned on. This one is quieter than my washing machine. It does get louder when juicing, but not to the extent of the others.
Second, I would say struck me as advantageous is the stability. It doesn't move on the counter while you're inserting and juicing. Most others cannot say that (unless you buy the 50 lb commercial models).
Next, the quality of juice and what is left behind is the most remarkable of all. Many times before (especially with the Black & Decker and Sunbeam models), I had to squeeze out the pulp to get more juice. That's not handy, nor time-saving. The LaLanne Power Juicer spits out dry shards. Nothing to speak of left behind.
Lastly, I would say one of the only real drawbacks is the juice holder. It sits just a slight bit too far from the spout, so that occasionally, it will dribble on the side of the cup. My recommendation is to buy a stainless steel mixing bowl that fits perfectly underneath the spout. It will hold more than the provided juice cup anyway. That's a small price to pay for an awesome juicer.
The Accessory Blade puller is easy and fast to remove. Other brands don't have the option, and can cut yourself on removing blades. The blades have remained sharp after about 200 juice sessions, so So-far So-good! The Pulp cup is extra large, so you can go an extra long time without emptying (which is yet another advantage over the others).
Safety is a big issue with me, especially since some juicers can easily turn on when disassembled (grated knuckles come to mind). This one has a hold-down bar that prevents the unit from turning on unless it is securely closed.
The pulp also slides out into the bin easily, since it's dry. The manufacturer decided to tint it light blue, which is nice, considering carrots, beets and mangoes tend to tint their own shades, so it still looks good and doesn't show the color of the fruit/veg. The plastic they use is also more of a flexible soft plastic, so it probably won't chip or crack if lightly dropped. Many of my old juicers had been tossed because of the inability of ordering replacements (or very expensive), due to the brittle and/or cheap plastics used. The LaLanne Juicer comes with a recipe book (lots of great ideas!) and replacement part orders run from $10-20 for 'kit' orders (2-4 replacement pieces come in a kit).
Cleanup on this is very easy in comparison to what I've had to do in the past. I can clean up the entire machine and have it in the dish drainer in less than 5 minutes.
I've finally found my match, after spending over $3000 on others! You should get one too! :)
