The Bottom Line I hope Epinions is around long enough for me to
post another 50.
Feeling that my 50th review/epinion should be something different, I've tried to put together some sort of reflection on the good times/bad times here. Finally, in commemoration of my 50 postings, I decided to compile 50 reasons to either love or hate Epinions. (Obviously, due to the number of items, I will try to keep each one short and to the point). This may cause you, the reader, to sort of "read between the lines". You'll have to decide whether each item is a "Love" or "Hate". Some will be easy, some not, but as in life, the choice is always yours. 1- "aaaaaaaaaaa" or "bbbbbbbbbbbb" 2- Penny for your thoughts ? (New pay scale) 3- Rating circles 4- A myriad of "write-offs" 5- How To Choose Socks 6- Rubber Stamping 7- Nirav Tolia 8- Advisors 9- Mentioning names in reviews 10- Just In Section 11- The Web of Trust 12- Epinions "original version" 13- The "new and improved" Epinions II 14- Plagiarists 15- Blocked members list 16- Revenge Raters 17- One paragraph reviews with no content 18- One paragraph reviews with enough content 19- Changes in TOS without advising the members 20- Reviews the length of War and Peace 21- Erratic/Incorrect/Delayed Eroyalty counts 22- New Products Added section 23- REVIEWS IN ALL CAPS 24- reviews in all lower case 25- Vacuum cleaner reviews that say "this vacuum sucks" 26- Low ratings with no comments 27- High ratings by "anonymous" 28- Profile pages that take an hour to load 29- The Content Partner Site 30- People that are trusted by hundreds, yet trust a very few. 31- Most of the "How to Use......" categories 32- The future of Epinions - is there one ? 33- Whining, crying and finger pointing 34- Grammar police 35- Doing away with "Kids & Family Editorials" 36- Profile pages with no information (but at least they load fast !) 37- Reviews that say "Good-Bye" (especially more than once...) 38- Abusers of all sorts (padders, duplicate accounts, racists, vulgarity, etc) 39- Most Popular Reviewers 40- The ever-mystical Income Share formula 41- The monthly epinions chat 42- Trust Sluts 43- Rants & Raves 44- Your review with 125 VH ratings and 1 H/SH or NH 45- The return of e-mail alerts 46- Report a Bug 47- Epinions.com site status (stability ?) 48- How To Care For Your Hoe (?) 49- Non-paying General comments 50- Last, but certainly not least, the people. Good, Bad and Ugly. We, the people are what make this site. Not only the products, books, movies or any of the other categories. It's the people and their passion and willingness to write about these things. Their ability to share their experiences and knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to read and rate each others reviews. Here's looking forward to the next Fifty ! (I promise I won't do this for my 100th review) I Swear I won't !  |
