My biggest complaint about the controls on Halo 2 is that I couldn't slap someone without taking my thumb off of the joystick (which is bad because someone can you get in the the second or two that it takes to push the button and come back to the joystick). I could switch controller profiles so that the slap is on one of the triggers but then I couldn't throw a grenade without taking my thumb off of the joystick. It was kind of frustrating to me.
Finally my wife bought me this controller for a Valentine's gift (now that is a romantic wife, I wouldn't trade her for anything).
Description: Here's a link to a picture of the corded controller: http://www.holycowgroup.com/images/fpsmaster.jpg. As see you can see from the picture, the FPS master has two handle grips. Along the side of each handle are two buttons (four buttons in total on the handles). Each button on the handle corresponds to a button on the regular controller (x,y,a,b). It also has the typical two analog sticks for controlling your movement and viewing.
The FPS Master also has a built-in mapping feature. You can map all the buttons to any other different button or function. Once you have the mapping to your liking, you can save the mapping to a profile on the controller. It allows three different mappings to be saved, which allows you to switch to your different profiles quickly and painlessly
The feel of the controller is actually very comfortable. I've been to quite a few intense gaming parties and I've never felt like my hands needed a rest.
So overall, this controller has all the same buttons and controls that the regular controller has. The main difference is that the location of the controls have been moved (whether or not that is good or bad is discussed below).
What I did not like: Let's start with this part. I did not like that it took me almost a week of playing Halo (an hour a night) to get back to the same level of skill that I was with the original controller. I've been using this controller for over a year now and even now I still don't know which button corresponds to the x, y, a, or b button. I also do not like that I if try playing Halo with a normal controller, I get my butt kicked. I don't remember the buttons very well and am no where near as good with the normal controller as I am with the FPS controller (but that's not the controller's fault). I'm sure that if I played on both for awhile, I could switch between the two without a problem.
Another thing to be aware of is that this controller is designed for FPS (like the title of the product so cleverly tells us). Using this controller on a driving game or fighter game actually is harder than with a normal controller. Do not buy this controller thinking that you will replace your normal controller forever. The normal controller will still be your best bet for playing the other game types.
What I liked: I love this controller. It is the best thing to happen to me and Halo 2. Once I got past the learning curve (1 week), I increased the already large scoring divide between me and my lan party buddies (usually around 7 points) to 10 points. Due to the placement of the a,b,x,y buttons being located on the handle grips, I no longer have to lose control of where I'm looking or running to throw a punch or throw a grenade. Even though I don't know which button on this controller is the B button, I instinctively know which button is the slap or which will switch weapons. The buttons are in an excellent spot. I at first thought that I would bump the buttons in intense moments but that's not the case. You have to be deliberate with your button mashing for you to throw that punch.
The feel of thing is great and actually adds to the experience (if you haven't noticed, it kind of looks like a gun) Another great things about this controller is that because it has a kind of high learning curve, no wants to borrow this controller. They may ask to use it but I tell them about how hard it is to use at first and they leave my prized controller where it belongs, with me. This thing is awesome.
Price Paid: I didn't buy it but I've seen them for just under $30 at local game stores.
