I am neither pro- or against circumcision... (Reply to this comment)

but I do perform them when requested. I am pro-choice in regards to circumcision (just as I am pro-choice on other topics)

Anyway, when I perform circumcisions, I always use the dorsal penile block.

Thanks for sharing.

Circumcision doesn't just hurt the baby--it hurts the mother, too. Knowing what I know about the harm of circumcision and knowing how perfect my sons are in their wholeness, I can't imagine the pain *I* would feel if they had had their most sensitive body part surgically diminished, especially without adequate pain relief.

And THANK YOU! for being smart enough and compassionate enough not to put a future son through this unnecessary trauma.

I'm so glad your eyes have been opened to the truth about circumcision. Too many mothers who have had their sons circumcised and then learn that it wasn't a good idea will still go on to have subsequent sons circumcised.

I hope you have many more sons(!) who will be left intact, as you now go about educating others about the harm of infant circumcision.

You make fabulous points in this editorial. I did rate down to an H because of the presentation. To get this information out, it needs to be easier to read. If you edit this to include paragraph breaks, etc, let me know and I'll re-rate!

the after effects (Reply to this comment)
by rngpie
My newborn son screamed each time he wet on himself and we were changing his diaper due to the pain of circumcsion, plus we had to rewrap and use vaseline on his pen*s for 3 weeks. I can still smell the fresh blood smell, and hear his painful screams at being changed.

I would not do it again, no matter what!!

I had no idea people even debated about this issue. I thought that it was a simple painless procedure. I never gave it a second thought when my Doctor mentioned that my son needed to have this done and I immediately signed away. Now I feel terrible that I didn't look into this more. I had no idea there was so much to consider. I assumed every male had this done. Thanks for informing me.

Painful decision, isn't it? (Reply to this comment)
by bradybunch
I too agonized over that decision when my son was born in 1988. My grandmother and father were in the hospital parking lot arguing about whether it should be done or not. I had it done. If I had the decision to make again, I would not have done it.

About your essay, it would be helpful if you were to break it up into paragraphs so it would be easier to read. I almost gave it a "helpful" instead of a "very helpful" because of that.
