Mattress Giant Strikes Again
Jul 08 '01 (Updated Jun 23 '07)
The Bottom Line If you see a Mattress Giant, run quickly in the opposite directions.
Yes, they have.
I bought my first mattress from them back in November. It was a Serta Perfect Sleeper. After several weeks of sleeping on it (all 115 pounds of me), a large portion of the mattress collapsed.
I waited almost 2 weeks to see if the dimensions of the collapse were large enough to deem acceptable to return the merchandise. When I got the call that they accepted it, I ran in there to let them know what I wanted to do.
I knew that I did not want that same mattress from the same manufacturer again. So, this time I got a Simmons Beautyrest. I was charged the difference in price, and shockingly, the delivery charge of $40.
Now, here I had a mattress that collapsed and I could not sleep on, and I am being charged $40 to bring me a new one.
After sleeping on the new one for about 3 weeks, I saw a large part of it collapsed again. I took off all my sheets and called my roommate in just to confirm that I wasnt seeing things. I wasnt. This time the portion that collapsed was much larger in dimensions.
I went into the store again and the manager filled out a claim sheet, and I am now waiting. But, I found out some interesting information while I was there. When I was there the last time, I spoke with the manager and he said that I could get just the mattress and keep the box spring from the Serta. Well, now, that same manager I spoke to before, tells me that since I have a different box spring from the mattress, that there is no warranty.
Let me also mention that when I asked for my money back, the manager laughed in my face.
I told him that I was never told that and he said he tells that to all his customers. Hmmm.
After I was finished speaking with the manager, I spoke to another customer in the store. It just so happens that she is on her third mattress from Mattress Giant. The first one smelled and arrived damp. She got so nauseous that finally she decided to have them pick it up and to try another brand. The next bed she got, after paying the $40 delivery charge, also collapsed. Then, she got a third one. The reason why she was back in the store again was because the third one had collapsed.
I also know that my boss just recently purchased a mattress from Mattress Giant which also collapsed.
Is it my imagination or is it quite possible that Mattress Giant sells inferior products? Is it possible that all they are concerned about is getting their money and not satisfying their customers? Is it possible that they could be selling used mattresses?
Please let me know if you or someone you know has had a similar experience with Mattress Giant . Feel free to leave me a comment.
