OAK has more than United TED (commuter flights) departures (Reply to this comment)

United flies a steady business to/from Denver. Other points East are served through this Denver hub, including Dulles, Houston, JFK, etc.

Oakland used to be a nice, neat, compact little airport that was super-user friendly. It's all the growth and expansion that has made it into the zoo that it is, today.

I am glad that I am now retired and no longer have to fly on business. I was using OAK as my favorite and flew as much as 5 to 6 flights a month.

It's where Southwest flies (Reply to this comment)

(as SFO is where United flies, and most American flights go to SJ), but I don't buy that "OAK is almost equally convenient to downtown" San Francisco (as SFO). Above ground, there is bridge traffic to contend with (especially worrisome for getting back to get a flight from Oakland).

It is also MUCH further from the freeway to the terminals at OAK than at SFO. And long-term parking near OAK is more problematic and expensive than at SFO.

And if flying through the Bay Area to Asia, OAK is disconnected.

Underground, there is waiting for the shuttle to BART, a 10-15 minute ride on it, then a longer BART ride than the direct one from SFO.

(And a pretty bad Mary Cheney pun!)

Well Done, SIr.... (Reply to this comment)

Of course the Doc found the Raiders store immediately. I was saved by the looong security lines. The food is lousy there and the $2.50 soda machines are a true rip-off. As you say, however, the price is right in Oakland. I have used this airport quite a few times now.

PS- It is especially creepy in the early morning when nothing is open. I had to wait twenty minutes to get a cup of coffee. Tom

Let me wipe the tears out of my eyes...

Ok.. I think. I swear the only times I miss my MH button over here is when I read your reviews...

And oh yeah... being a girrrrl, I can state emphatically that the shopping here sucks. heh. Yeah, I actually do shop at the airport while waiting for my flight...
