I have a street address with no mailbox, so consequently I have a po box. I placed an order on 4-5-05 using my street address as primary and my po box as secondary (because that it how it is listed with my credit card company, and the addresses have to match). This is obviously because they ship UPS. They shipped it UPS two day air and it arrived on 4-7-05 on time. They sent it correctly by sending it to the primary address (just like with the other hundreds of web orders I have placed with various sites over the years). Nice transaction. Thanks.
Now, my girlfriend (who lives at the same address) placed another order with them on 4-19-05. The order was filled out exactly the same as mine. Primary address= street, secondary address= po box (for credit card billing purposes). Then came late the following day, and still no email stating it has been shipped, etc. She called. They said it was shipped to the po box. When asked why, because they shipped the first order to the correct address, they claimed that the first order was flagged because of two addresses and they chose the primary/street address and sent it (which is correct and logical). With no real reason, he said they picked the secondary address (po box) this time because the highest priority address they choose is a po box, irregardless of what the primary address was. Now this is a lie, because if it were true, my first order was to be shipped to the secondary/po box (which it wasn't, they chose the correct primary/street address). Next, he said well, the secondary address line is just for runoff if the first line is too long. Now we all now that's wrong. Many of us have a two line addresses. He just kept making up pathetic and uneducated excuses as to why they sent it to the wrong address. We just wanted to hear him say that yes, we did send it to the wrong address and we're sorry... but no. All they had to do is what every single other company does which is print both addresses on the label. I don't appreciate them modifying our requested shipping address.
Now as I said before, we have been ordering things online using this same address for years. If the item comes UPS or FedEx, the street address is the primary with the po box being the secondary. If I know it's coming USPS I put the po box as the primary and the street as secondary. And if it's not made known what carrier it is coming, then we (again) put both. USPS sees the po box and delivers. FedEx/UPS sees the street and delivers it. Now you know, if the billing address and the shipping address doesn't match, it will cause you problems. We had remedied that issue a long time ago by putting both addresses on our credit card accounts. No one has ever screwed it up but Zappos. We had needed the shoes in two days, but because it was shipped USPS, it will be 7 days. They did send another pair out via UPS two day air to the right address after the calls, and we will have the others sent back when the come (in a week). But that is nothing special, it is simply noted as an exchange. They do that anyway. We simply wanted to hear an apology but instead heard excuses why they went against sending the package to the correct, listed, primary address. I am going to have them remove our accounts in full and will never shop there again.
PS- Who ever at Zappos sent my first order, thank you for doing a quick and correct job. As for CHRIS, learn about shipping and address protocols and don't open your mouth about things that you know nothing about.
