I was receiving many abusive emails from people disagreeing with my medical epinions, and many others from people soliciting medical advice.
I felt the only solution was to remove my email address. Sorry.

to post a hotmail address that I only use to sign up for things that I am aware could possibly lead to spamming. I have a personal address that nobody on epinions has, and I'll keep it that way, but I enjoy being able to exchange email with fellow epinions folk.

to have an email on my profile and not worry
about SPAM and the likes too.
I got a FREE HOTMAIL account and use it for my Epinions and some other on line things and groups and keep my other email for personal use. If I get SPAMMED at the HOTMAIL in box I can just click by the SPAM and delete in a few fell swoops.

I'm sure it helps generate much of the junk mail I receive on a regular basis, but I've also gotten some very nice emails from people.
I'd rather hit the delete key a few extra times that chance missing an email from someone who enjoyed my work or has questions or comments that they don't want to leave publicly.

to remove their email addresses. Some juvenile has been signing members up for hundreds of spam email lists. Unfortunately, this means that some people have decided to remove their addresses from their profile pages.

The thing is, many people (myself included) are not necessarily worried about being harassed by someone from Epinions but about spammers collecting email addresses. Spammers use bots that analyze websites and collect lines of text that look like email addresses, and for them a site like Epinions would be a gold mine. As someone who already gets 50-100 junk emails per day, last thing I want is having my email address openly available to everyone and anyone. I do agree with your epinion, though. Sometimes it's nice to be able to email people, especially since Epinions is such a unique community.
