A lot of people ask this question. Some people come up with there own answers and are very rarely correct about them. Some of you big old movie buffs out there might think that this is a really stupid question but it's not. Half of the people I know don't even know what a black comedy is. People 30 or 40 years old don't know what black comedies are. Well I'm going to tell you exactly what a black comedy is in this opinion and I will give examples. It's ridiculous that some people don't know what a black comedy is, I know that, but that why I'm here. To tell you what is and is not a Black Comedy. What it is not Before you understand what a black comedy is you must understand what it isn't. Many people get confused on black comedies because they will sometimes think a regular comedy is a black comedy when it really is not. Let's take for example the movie Dumb and Dumber, I actually know people who think this movie is a black comedy because the movie is made by the Farrelly Brothers (I think that's how you spell it). Farrelly Brothers really don't make to many black comedies. See there humor is more goofy-like, they like to go to the extremes and "WOW" and Amaze people constantly. Just because Dumb and Dumber has some slapstick violence in it and sexual related humor a lot of people think that it's a black comedy. See every category of a movie has more categories in that category. Like the action category has extra categories like Action-Drama or Action-Comedy. Comedy category has a couple categories. There is Action Comedy, Black Comedy, Stand-up Comedy, Drama Comedy and Spoof Comedy. See spoof comedy and black comedy get confused the most. Take for example the movie Dracula Dead and Loving It. Some people might think that it is a Black Comedy because, there is a certain scene in the movie where Mel Brooks and another guy (forgot his name), stab a stake through the vampires heart and a lot of blood just shoots out. I'm talking maybe 4 to 5 gallons of it. See that would be a spoof scene; it's making fun of movies that use a lot of blood like B horror movies. What it is What a black comedy is... well it is a movie that would be a suspense, thriller, horror, or sci-fi, turned into a comedy. For example, the movie Very Bad Things. That takes a horrible situation and makes it into a comedy in a way. 5 friends go to Vegas to celebrate a bachelor party and one of the friends has sex with the stripper and accidentally kills her, so know they have to hide the body and things get screwed up very badly. You wonder how can that be turned into a comedy. Well that's simple... fantastic writing. So that's pretty much what a black comedy is! Surprised. No okay just go watch the movies I named.  |
