| ladman's Full Review: Samsung SyncMaster 213 T (Silver) 21.3" LCD Monito... |
I would have to say that I am a proud techno junkie.
The latest and greatest only find a place in my home. This Samsung is the nicest LCD computer monitor I have and I own 6 LCD's in my home.
I opted for the silver unit which matches my Lian Li V1000 case. For graphics I am running a X850 ATI video card with peltier cooling and water. Images are superb. I play games when I can sneak one in on my hectic schedule and this LCD is not too bad with little ghosting. I have now owned it for 6 months and so far no issues with durability.
Setup is simple though some care must be given due to it's size and weight. A USB hub would have been nice for the price, buy hey, I'm not complaining, just trying to make a good product better.
In comparison to the NEC, I found the Samsung brighter and crisper and sturdier with it's heavier mount.
For connections the unit both DVI and VGA inputs. If your video card has it use the DVI input as it provides and cleaner and crisper image.
Screen resolution is 1600x1400. This is the native LCD resolution for this monitor so images will be best when your PC is set to this. If your prefer another resolution then the monitor will accommodate yours needs but the picture will suffer losing the crispness. I would recommend that you keep it at 1600x1400 and increase the font size in Windows.
Menu controls are easy to use and you have a variety of options to choose from. I found the default color settings to be very good and accurate for photo work.
Also keep in mind that Samsung now has a new zero dead pixel policy for 2005 where they will replace the unit even if it has ONE dead pixel. Before you needed over 8-10 annoying dead pixels before a manufacturer would replace it. Samsung has taken a great leap forward and hopefully other brands will follow suit. Good job Samsung. I have since moved this monitor to the other room to make room for a 27" LCD tv for my main computer. However for photography work the high resolution of this unit is better than the lower resolution of many LCD TV's.
My advice: If you can swing it, buy it.
