The Bottom Line Size matters
There a lot of different types of label makers, each with a different function in mind. I'll start with the smallest and go in no particular order from there. The great thing about this topic is that it's vague. I'll get in a lot of different kinds of label maker. The smallest are the ones that simply shoot out a string of letters. These are good for strictly labeling things. In setting up a home network, we had to name the computers. I used my labeler to make up a sticker that had the name of each computer on it. You wouldn't think this would help, but it does. I believe this would qualify as a parity product, meaning that there's not much difference between models. Look at cost as the primary factor. Another kind of label maker is an address label maker. These are computer programs designed to make up mailing labels, but I suppose you could use it for other things if you were creative enough. If you buy one of these programs, though, you'll need to by the right kind of labels since the sheets come in different sizes. Also, make sure that your printer can handle mailing labels. Most printers made within the past ten years should be able to do this, but I don't want to be blamed for ruining your $1,000 printer. There are also CD label makers. Most writable CDs (CD-Rs) come with a place to writ in information, but that's not going to be enough if you have a long play list. You may want a CD label maker if you have a long play list or if you're making CD-ROMs to give out to friends. You can really make them look fancy. I'm not sure if you have to buy a certain kind of CD, so you'll have to ask around before buying anything. Also, you have choices. There are some for making one or two labels at a time and there are some for making 12 or more copies of the same label at a time. You have important choices to make, but most of them will be dictated simply by what you need.  |
