Tyrconnell, I must say, is a biased whiskey for me for several reasons... it's pot-stilled, it's single malt, great on ice, more pronounced spice characteristics with minimal effect to sweetness, and it's $22 USD/ fifth. I'll bust out the Jameson's or Tullamore Dew for my female acquaintances, but the Tyrconnell is for the lads.
The breakdown:
It's aged to a certain degree (not sure of how many years)
Though it could be aged more, it is relatively smooth on the rocks, retains texture and spice.
Spice characteristics VERY prevalent, nice nose, doesn't give that rising feeling in the sinuses post-consumption
Two sips before you can drink long, smooth draughts.
When warm, though, be careful, it sneaks up in about three waves going up the sinuses. More select whiskeys are better for that consumption.
Highly recommend serving over ice. More for the "mature pallet" as it is less sweet and more spicy. Good heady body with smooth finish and sweet (but not overpowering) aftertaste. Oaken characteristics, single malt, pot distilled, cheap price = VERY GOOD BUY, especially for the "table" drinker. Save the good stuff, replace Jameson's and Bushmill's with Tyrconnell!!!!
