The Bottom Line If you feel the need to copy someone else's work, at least learn to be good at it...
There are several things one should know about Epinions, like what is considered abuse, or at least some of the things I have ran into lately... Plagiarism: There is an old saying " Plagiarism saves time" and some members (old and new) here at epinions are making this quote a fact. I have spent a lot of time lately just reading and rating and have come across a lot of reviews copied directly from information off the internet. Most of the writers don't even take the time to change the words around, they simply, cut, copy and paste...I just recently read one that I typed the review subject in on my keyword and this person had copied it word for word. Why does someone feel that they need to copy someone else writings and pass them off as their own? I don't know the answer but I have a clue. They don't own any products in their home to write about, they never read a book or watched a movie, never owned a computer, printer or scanner, don't travel, have no pets, no children (they claim), or have no helpful advice to give anyone. All this being true they feel the need to copy the writings of others. Multiple Accounts There are your Tom, Dick and Harry's here who so like one another and the reviews they write so well that they feel the need to create multiple accounts and read and rate their buddies with the highest of ratings. I assume they know how worthless their reviews are beforehand and know that they won't be read, so they must open up account after account so at least they can rate them. I found one member last week whom had eleven different Epinions ID's and used them to read and rate all of their reviews and was dumb enough to add them all to their WOT... Writers with multiple accounts must be really insecure about what they submit or why else would they need Tom, Dick, and Harry. When you see a person with no member information listed and they have yet to write a opinion, and they already have people on the WOT. This is a red flag to me and most of the time they can be traced to a member who is usually guilty of having multiple accounts. Worthless Reviews I came across a member the other night that could be considered your average genius or maybe just someone who has been there and done that. They have been a member since June 2001 and have already written over 456 opinions. I was impressed at first until I read one of them and immediately the envy I felt earlier was gone. The titles blew me away, on the movie reviews they were used over and over again. Please, remember plagiarism is stealing so if I see these titles on your next movie review I will know where it came from. Great Movie Good Movie Best Movie Interesting Movie Alright Movie OK Movie Bad Movie Not To Good Movie Well, you get the picture by now. Then on reviews about Parks, there were the Wonderful Parks, Great Parks, Good Parks, Excellent Parks, and my favorite the OK Park. And who said a great title won't bring you a lot more readers. Out of 456 reviews written, there were 2286 member visits and 2288 total. If my brain don't fail me now, that is, at a penny a read, $22.28. Now is this person a real idiot or what.... Now, see I made absolutely nothing for submitting a worthless opinion and never mentioned anyone's name in anyway. Unless, you know who you are just by reading between the lines, and then, oh well..... |
