As soon as they add this section or add the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller to their database, this is the best place for this review. Our backyard is filled with trees and various shrubs. Because of this, we tend to get a lot of spiders, ants, fleas, silverfish and occasional mice. After trying several products with disappointing results, I purchased the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller for $4.95 through LTD Commodities. (www.ltdcommodities.com) I have to be careful about what I use because we have a baby, a dog and a cat. Not all products are safe under these conditions, but the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller claimed to be safe so I gave it a try. The Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller states to effectively repel bats, mice, rats, ants, fleas, spiders and silverfish. By use of ultrasonic waves, the pests become disturbed and leave the area. The Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller is a small square device that you plug into a standard 110 volt outlet. There is a red indicator light on the front of the unit that pulses to indicate the device is working properly. The white device is a little wider than an outlet and about the same length. (2.675” wide x 3.25” high x 1.125” deep) It consumes no more than 5 watts AC during use. Ultrasonic Waves? Ultrasound is sound waves. “Ultrasonic” refers to frequencies above 20,000 Hz. Humans can only hear sonic frequencies below 20,000 Hz, where as dogs and cats can hear up to 27,000 Hz. The Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller operates above 27,000 Hz so that cats and dogs are not affected. Pests such as bats, mice, and rats can hear higher frequencies than 27,000 Hz. These high sound waves cause discomfort and disorientation to these pests, causing them to leave the area. However, insects do not hear, but the ultrasonic frequencies affect their central nervous system through vibrations. This may cause decreased reproductive capability and/or great discomfort from the constant vibration. This will either cause the insect to stop reproducing and die off or like rodents, just leave the area. Sound waves do not pass through floors, doors, or furniture, they travel via air. Because of this reason, the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller must be placed clear of obstacles. Sunbeam does produce Electromagnetic models that will penetrate through obstacles if you prefer. When Does It Start To Work? Depending on the size of the area and the amount of pests, the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller can start working from day one up to two weeks. I noticed a huge difference after just one day of use. If you have a larger area, consider adding more than one unit. WARNING!!! Because the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller sends out “ultrasonic waves”, people with pacemakers or other medical devices may be affected. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR before using this product. Also, the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller should not be used around hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and ferrets. These small pets can hear above 27,000 Hz and will be affected by the “ultrasonic waves”. The Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller insists to be SAFE around plants, cats, dogs, fish and birds. I have been using this device in my home for several months with a dog, cat and plants and have had NO problems. From day one, I noticed the spiders, silverfish and ants were gone from inside our home. COMPLETELY GONE!!! After about a week, the spiders and ants outside our home were COMPLETELY GONE!!! Nor have I noticed any mice in our backyard. Because it’s summer time and our windows and doors are open, I know the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller reached to the outside. I am VERY impressed with the range and result of this device and will continue to purchase and use the Sunbeam Electronic Pest Repeller.  |
