2004 Honda Civic Hybrid Automatic
Written: May 02 '05
Have had this car since March 2004 and was purchased brand new. Now that it is broken in and after I learned on how to drive it (takes awhile) I will attempt a review.
The gas mileage goes from 44 to 54 mpg depending upon how the vehicle is driven and the amount of hills. I was surprised to find out that the gas mileage is much better if you do NOT use the cruise control. The mileage is much increased if the driver stays off the brake and coasts to a stop (it will coast about a mile to a mile and one half). After stopping, keeping the foot on the brake the engine will stop completely and will restart when the gas pedal is pressed. Driving like this will get you in the high 40's = lo 50's - even in the city.
The power is awsum for a 4 banger. With 4 large adults plus luggage this car will accelerate going UP Black Mountain on Interstate 40. Most other V8's will slow and struggle on this run. On windy roads this jewel drives better than most sports cars due the extra weight of the battery. Traction is very good on snow and ice (I have a Jeep also) and will compete with the Jeep on ice.
The passenger compartment is large with lots of leg room. The trunk is very large considering that there is a battery back there.
Most people that you may get a large tax credit on a new one. I got $2500.00 in North Carolina so check your state. This kind of makes up the difference in price from a regular Civic.
The passenger compartment is very roomy and the trunk is very large considering there is a large battery back there.
