| cyndie1030's Full Review: Goodearth Hotel |
I arrived in Brisbane at 10:30 a.m. after a grueling 36 hour journey from the U.S. only to be told I could not check-in until 1:00 p.m. I know every hotel has a check-in time but I travel frequently for my job and this has been the first time I have had a hotel make me wait to check-in...after all, I can't control what time a flight arrives. The lobby wasn't too bad and I allowed myself to hope that the room would be as nice. NOT! The halls smell mildew-y and the rooms are old. They've made some efforts to fix some things up, but much still needs done. The rooms have only a dial-up connection (when will Australian hotels catch up with ones in the U.S. and offer FREE high-speed internet access?) and the connection was through the phone which was on one side of the room and the ONLY free outlet in the room was beside the TV on the other side of the room. The only way to connect to the internet from my laptop was to stretch the phone across the room with it sitting in the middle of the floor. No place to sit other than two chairs meant for the table which are not meant for relaxing...so that means three weeks spent sitting on the bed to read, watch television, etc. The 15 inch television was one of the smallest I have had in a hotel room in all my travels...and it made a consistent, very loud buzzing noise on one of the three channels, plus every time you turned it on or changed the volume setting. All in all, the hotel is adequate...but when I am staying somewhere for weeks on end, I expect a bit more than adequate. And lastly, the hotel is in a fair location to get to the CBD, but it sits on a hill, so you have a grueling up-hill walk to get back to your hotel from the downtown area.
UPDATE May 12, 2005. I have now been here for just over a week and it gets worse the longer I stay. The temperature in Brisbane has dropped down to the mid-teens (C) or the low 60's (F) but the room has no heat. I thought it was just not working, but I was told there is no heat available. The recommendation to keep warm was to "not turn on the air conditioning". The air conditioning has not been turned on since I got here and it's still freezing in my room. I truly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone!
