I'm on a Desert Island and I can Only Have TenJul 12 '01 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line All the bases are covered as well as the decades when you add my honorable mentions. I was brutal, but fair, enjoy. The movies that make this list for me are the movies that if I were on a desert island and I could only have my top ten movies of all time, it would be torture, but here are the movies I would choose. I would of course want to have my honorable mentions to make my time less hellish. =;0) On the lines where there is more than one movie, I think they are equal parts of the whole experience of the movie for me. The Honorable Mentions: The Wizard of OZ (1939); Ghostbusters (1984); Raiders of The Lost Ark (1981); The Blues Brothers (1980); Batman (1989); Enter the Dragon (1973); Blazing Saddles (1974); Animal House (1978); Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967); Planet of the Apes (1968); The Ten Commandments (1956); Fantasia (1940); Pulp Fiction (1994); Clerks (1994); Magnolia (1999); Gladiator (2000). 1. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982) - This is the movie that introduces the public to Drew Barrymore that matters to me, I think she's great. Steven Spielberg did an excellent job and this movie stands the test of time. 2. The Godfather (1972); The Godfather: Part II (1974) - The Definitive mob movie series. All three of these movies are classics and as a complete story should only take up one spot in the top ten movies of all time list. 3. Jaws (1975) - Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, naked, a shark comes along to ruin your good time. Classic opening sequence in this one folks. 4. Rocky (1976), Rocky II (1979) - When the list of the best movies of all time is revealed all three of the Rocky movies will be there. Well at least I know that these two will be. 5. Star Wars (1977); Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (1999); Star Wars Episode VI Return of The Jedi (1983); Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - The Star Wars series of movies are the same as the Godfather movies for a different reason. They are just plain good, engaging and the story works on a shallow Shakespearean kind of level. 6. Saturday Night Fever (1977) - Disco came to life with the movie and it never went away. Watch this movie and then go to Polly Ester's and get down, just like John Travolta, back when he was thin. 7. Alien (1979) - This Horror movie in space still scares the heck out of me. I like to not watch it for several years and then watch it again for the scary thrills. This movie will be on my Top Ten of all time list. 8. Titanic (1997) - Massive ship and massive movie and a love story that knows when to bow out of the way so we can watch the ship sink. James Cameron's attention to detail and passion for this project or evident in every frame. 9. The Matrix (1999) - The closest thing I have seen to a live action anime movie. Parts II and III are being shot simultaneously see this one first and avoid the rush. Action, romance and more action are only the beginning. 10. Sixth Sense (1999) - The kid says, "I see dead people" and I see Bruce Willis. M. Night Shyamalan and Bruce Willis make a great team. The director brings out the best in Bruce and Bruce delivers another solid performance. |
