| gwizdavid's Full Review: Hot+Cold Mini Fridge |
Here's The Good:
1) When you take Sharper Image's Mini Fridge out of the box for the first time, you'll probably say, "Wow"! It has a brushed silver body with a shiny silver handle - all very nice looking. The inside is very fridge-like with two shelves on the door and a shelf in the middle.
2) Set up is as easy as ever. Just plug it in, set it to cold or hot, and that's it. The switch on the back is a plus, with a blue light for cold and red for hot so you don't mix it up.
3) You just might forget that it's there it's so quiet. I have it just near my feet and can barely hear the hum of the motor that kicks on every five minutes or so.
4) If I ever wanted to take it on a trip, it has a handle for easy carrying and a car lighter adapter if I need it.
Now The Bad:
However, looks and portability are one thing, performance is another.
1) It doesn't keep things "cold", more like "cool." If you like your Cokes icy cold to drink, you might want to look elsewhere. It just keeps them moderately cold. The instructions that come with the fridge give steps on how to defrost it - I chuckle when I think of that. The only way it will get frost inside is if you keep the door open, set it outside, and wait for snow to fall. Not to knock it too bad, it keeps things cool and would be great for keeping your lunch from going bad for a day or so.
2) I haven't used the warm setting, but I would anticipate a tepid warmth instead of "heating up your food".
3) The door is kind of clunky. You need to make sure it snaps shut or all the cool air will escape.
If you need something small to keep your lunch in for the day or a few drinks, then give it a try. I paid $50 for mine and am moderately satisfied with it. If you can pay a bit more, I'd look around a bit and see if there's something a little better.
