First level support can be a crap shoot

Pros:Better the devil I know . . .

The Bottom Line: I would look for a host with better support.

I've used Interland by default since I was involuntarily migrated from Hostpro. I later added two websites because I wanted to avoid learning another provider. I've designed and uploaded websites using both Frontpage and Macromedia, and found that process a bit arcane, but satisfactory. My email client is Outlook 2003. Most recently, I called support because I had been unable to get email for 2 days, despite no changes on my end and a long run with no problems. The support I got was classic offshore politeness, "sorry, sorry... thanks for your patience..." with the person putting me on hold over and over, continually apologizing for "slow computers." I was continually asked to repeat my passwords, as if a completely new question. Finally, after offering no help, she said she would have to "escalate" the problem, and I would hear back "when the supervisor is able to respond." The next day I got an email stating "We understand your issue has been resolved." I then went back into the support system and reopened the ticket two times, each time getting the same "your issue resolved" response. I was promised on two instances that someone would call, but no one did. I called back to the help desk, and this time a knowledgeable person helped me isolate the problem, though they could not explain why my password had been reset back to a default without my knowledge. Finally, it appears that my ISP (Direcway) has changed something on their server, and Interland says it's not their problem. It simply should not be this much trouble to get this far.
