| jhager's Full Review: Magellan Explorist 200 GPS Receiver |
This small unit is surprisingly good and considering its low price it is an outstanding buy. It holds up well (I've dropped it more than once) and acquires satellites very quickly. It also holds the satellite signal when other units (in this price range and above) lose contact. It has the sharpest screen of any unit I've used and the amber back-lighting is excellent. Another big advantage is that while it has many useful features, it's easy to get up and running with it (even when you have no prior experience with a GPS receiver). Zooming in and out is fast and scrolling is a breeze (a function not always available on units this inexpensive). The built-in map has more detail than expected (most units in this price range do not have built-in maps). You certainly won't find every local street as you do with the units that accept downloaded maps, but highways and major streets are there. It easily provides enough detail to keep you from getting lost. I purchased one for my wife and it's already gotten her out of trouble when she had to get around a traffic jam in another city. I strongly recommend this solidly built pocket-sized navigation tool.
