| xyzwyatt's Full Review: Sterilite White Laundry Hamper 1252 |
When searching for a laundry hamper we decided to go with the Sterilite hamper because
it was the only one to choose from that met or criteria of cheap, plastic, and white.
We had previously been using round hampers and thought we would give this one a chance since the round one didnt fit in our laundry room very well. I was pleased that this takes up little room and can be squeezed in inconspicuous areas.
One of the reasons I liked this hamper is because of the lid. Our previous hamper required the user to lift the lid off and throw the clothes in and then replace the lid. Well, nobody did that (except me of course). Either they threw it on top of the lid or dropped the clothes next to the hamper. The lid is securely attached on this hamper and our lid remains in the upright position in our house nearly all the time. The lid doesnt even falls down when Im getting the laundry out. When the lid is down its mostly flat so I can use it for more space to stack my towels on while Im folding the laundry.
There is a wide lip all the way around the basket which makes it easy to transport from home the room to the laundry room. The hamper can get pretty heavy if there are a lot of jeans in it but they rim and hamper is strong enough to handle anything.
There are 6 rows of holes about the width of two fingers on both sides. This vents the hamper well so it reduces the risk of moldy and stinky clothes. Mold and mildrew love the dark so this hamper allows a lot of light in to fight off that problem. The plastic is solid yet flexible so it can get beat around without breaking.
After having several different types of hampers I find this one has a lot of benefits. If the hamper gets dirty or stinky you can easily hose it out which isnt an option with other types of hampers. This laundry hamper doesnt absorb smells like cloth lined hampers do. Most importantly, I dont have snagged items like I did with a straw hamper. Also, since the hamper is well vented the clothes can sit longer between washes if need be.
The only drawbacks that I can think of is that its not a great decorative piece and not good for the car if taking to a laundry mat. I cant even imagine not having laundry to fill this but is not collapsible so will continue to take up room when not in use.
We paid about $6 for this and what I recall the most is that it was the least expensive one on the shelf at Target the day we went.
Although inexpensive, it doesnt seem cheap. I could ask for a more stylish hamper but for the price, shape and durability it is excellent.
