I suppose its no surprise that Im one of the vast majority who finds cleaning at the bottom of their to-do list. After all, there are so many more fun and interesting things to do! With fast and easy cleaning in mind, I was eager to try the Clorox BathWand.
Description & Assembly
The Clorox BathWand comes packaged in a blue box 10 1/2" high x 6 1/2" wide. The box is much smaller than I expected. The packaging describes the BathWand as a Disposable Tub & Shower Cleaning System. It comes with one 23" handle with storage hook and two disposable pads loaded with cleaner. There is also a small (and flimsy) plastic "S" hook for hanging the wand. The back of the package is loaded with instructions for how to use the product as well as the usual cleaning product precautions. These instructions are bilingual in both English and Spanish.
When the package is opened, there is a center piece of cardboard dividing the interior of the box. The handle is located on one side of this cardboard. The slightly curved white handle comes in two pieces that easily twist and click together. Assembly of the handle is permanent so that the halves cannot be separated once united. The business end of this cleaner (known as the cleaning head) is also white plastic and resembles a curved triangle or an iron shape. This triangular piece is twist-tied to the cardboard divider. The top of this piece is smooth while the bottom reminds me of the stubby loop-ends of Velcro. It is easy to snap the handle into the top of the cleaning head, though a bit of force is required.
Once the handle is assembled, it is time to attach the cleaning pad. The pad also resembles a curved triangle and measures 5 inches high and 5 inches across its widest area. The pad attaches to the wand like Velcro. Just press the triangular plastic head of the wand against the Velcro-like top of the cleaning pad. Each pad comes packaged in clear plastic with instructions printed in blue on the plastic on how to attach the pad to the wand. The cleaning side of the pad is flat and with scrubby-type surface.
Now we are ready to clean!
My Experiences
I snipped open the plastic pouch that contained the cleaning pad ... and wow. The strong scent caught the back of my throat. Note to self: Do not open the cleaning pad directly under the nose.
The instructions say that after attaching the pad to the wand to run the pad lightly under water. Okay. Now I was ready to scrub the bathtub/shower enclosure. My tub has a textured glass sliding door and the tub is a light blue color. The wall tiles are a pretty combination of white and blue. Lets see how this new cleaning toy works in the tub and on the shower walls.
I opened one side of the sliding glass doors and was able to reach the entire bathtub and walls from that one spot. The cleaning solution in the cleaning pad created lots of bubbles and once the cleaning head was wet produced a pleasant scent. I didnt even notice any cleaning-solution odor when scrubbing. The scrubber end of the wand glided along the sides and bottom of the tub, easily removing soap scum. When I ran my hand along the cleaned area, it felt smooth with no residue remaining.
The triangular cleaning head swivels on the end of the wand, making it easy to reach into corners. I have two large triangular ceramic shelves mounted into the shower walls. Shampoo, conditioner and bottles of liquid soap fill those areas and leave soapy rings on the ceramic. This Clorox BathWand vanquished the soapy rings with ease.
Since the cleaning pad has stiff edges, I used the wand along the top edges of the tub and along the door where it sits against the tub rim. The cleaning pad edges pulled out dirt I had not been able to reach with other cleaning devices.
Where this product does not perform wonderfully is with grout. The swivel head kept twisting as I tried to move the stiff pad edges into the grout for cleaning. I finally held the triangular scrubber with my hand to keep it from moving and scrubbed the cleaner along the grout. Still, it did a minimal cleaning job. However, the tile walls look great and shine.
One thing to note is that the cleaning solution produces a lot of suds. It took me several rinses to rid the tub of all that froth. My shower has a water-saver nozzle, so when the shower is turned on, it does not reach the back wall of the tub area. In order to rinse the walls clean, I had to fill a small cooking pan with water and pour it down the surface. It also took awhile to convince the suds to depart from the bottom of the tub.
Usually when I clean the bathtub, I end up with back pain. Not so when using this product. I was also amazed that I did not have to get on my knees to scrub the tub.
The Clorox BathWand allowed me to thoroughly clean my bathtub faster than at any time in the past! And the wand is comfortable to hold and does not slide in the hand.
Cleaning the BathWand
When finished with the wand, you have two choices. Leave the cleaning head attached and use the plastic hanger to hang the wand to let it dry ... or pull the used cleaning head free and dispose of it in the trash. (Do not flush the cleaning head down a toilet.)
I find that the cleaning pads hold a lot of cleaning solution, which allows me to use one pad several times, which makes the wand more affordable.

Purchasing
This BathWand starter kit that contains the wand and two cleaning pads retails in my area for $11.99. A package of 5 cleaning pads costs $4.29.
I received this product as part of a pre-launch campaign. The PR firm sent me the starter kit in exchange for my honest, no-holds barred opinion.
Summary
I like the Clorox BathWand. It allowed me to clean the bathtub and shower in record-setting time. It did a great job of vanquishing soap scum and shining the tile and tub surfaces, too. The bathroom also smells fresh. Its a keeper!
