**** SO WHAT'S THE SMELL?
Glamourous is a women's fragrance that was created by Ralph Lauren in 2001. According to all the blurb on the Ralph Lauren site (and others advertising the perfume) "it contains a rich blend of pearl flowers, plumeria, lily, ginger flowers, tuberose, Siam wood, Cashmere musk and clementine."
It reminds me of a wine tasting party all these weird and wonderful expressions that perfume manufacturers come up with!
**** SO WHAT MADE ME GET IT?
To be totally and utterly frank here I was mesmerised by and totally sucked in by the fancy gold packaging (and the cute little diamante on the lid, which now looks a tad tacky - see 'packaging' and all the slick advertising that went with the product's launch. I had a fair amount of Boots advantage points saved up and wanted to treat myself. So I did. Don't get me wrong the scent is perfectly pleasant and I did try it on in the store first (not that dumb!) but it cost me over £45 for 50ml (albeit it in points, but these points were hard earned!) and so I would expect it to last a bit longer. I've had it a few months now and it seems to be going off already (and yes I do store it in a cool dark place along with the rest of my fragrance collection). It also fades very quickly once you put it on and has a slightly acidic smell that on a nostril sensitive day can smell vaguely like a cross between air freshener and insect repellent. Ok that maybe paints a worse painting that you should be seeing, but its just a hint of what to expect.
**** EVERYBODY HAS DIFFERENT TASTES THOUGH ...
Absolutely so make your own mind up and have a whiff next time you're in a department store. In the meantime here are some more details about this product:
~~~The full range
(price is approximate that I have found looking at several websites that stock this product)
- Glamourous Eau de parfum Spray 50ml (£32): this is the smallest size in the range, which is quite annoying. I personally prefer 30ml sizes or smaller. Perfume goes off so quickly, that if you&'re like me and have several bottles at home then it's going to be past its best before you can finish it. This size is also far to bulky and heavy with its round candle like shape to put in your handbag - forget it you'd need to take a rucksack out with you!
- Glamourous Eau de parfum Spray 100ml (£56): ridiculously large size if you ask me, but if you like to drown yourself in perfume constantly and stick to the same brand then this is the size to get as it represents much better value for money per oz/ ml.
- Bath and shower gel 200ml (£25): quite an extravagant buy since if you're going to be putting the perfume on anyway, you're not going to notice the difference. Well have you ever thought/ said to someone "Wow, you've obviously bathed in X's bubble bath and put their body lotion on, as well as the perfume!"
- Glamourous Body Lotion 200ml (£27.50)
As above really, but have got this as well as it is quite nice, makes your skin very soft and pleasant smell that would do fine as a replacement for perfume for daytime work wear when you don't want to be choking people next to you on an overdose of perfume.
- Glamourous Daylight Eau de toilette spray 50ml (£32): This is quite pleasant smelling, but is the lighter version of the fragrance. I suppose it could be quite nice to have the "day" and "night" version of any fragrance if you can afford it but don't really see the point myself as this one isn't particularly strong if you don't go crazy with the squirts and doesn't last long anyway.
- Glamourous Deodorant Spray 150ml (£20)smells nice, less acidic than the perfume. Nothing particularly special though.
Any perfume you see in a department store is mass-produced like anything else. That said, this packaging is quite eye-catching. Gold and square box with a round/ flat top bottle and lid with fake diamante on it.
Ralph Lauren Glamourous perfume: Trendy or trashy -that's up to you to decide.
