The Bottom Line Hang this bird feeder in a tree and your child will enjoy watching the birds feeding from it.
PINECONE BIRD FEEDER Update After receiving new information I have updated this epinion to replace peanut butter with corn syrup, a safer option for feeding birds. Birds appreciate a bird feeder in the Autumn and Winter when their food supply becomes scarce. This is a project that is a lot of fun for children to make, even quite young pre-schoolers will have fun helping to make this bird feeder. I helped preschoolers make this at the Early childhood centre where I work and they enjoyed managed making them with minimal help. Materials you will need. Pinecone with stalk. One that is opening up is ideal. Corn Syrup Fine Birdseed. A wildbird seed mixture is best if available. A length of string or cord. How to: 1. Tie cord firmly around pinecord stalk, securing with water proof tape if necessary. 2. With a brush, spread corn syrup thinly all over pinecone ensuring that it fills any gaps. 3. Pour half a cup of bird seed into a shallow dish, add more if needed. 4. Roll the corn syrup covered pinecone in the birdseed so all the cone is covered in birdseed. 5. Hang pinecone feeder in a tree and enjoy watching the birds feed. We hang ours on a tree near a window so my children can watch the birds feed without disturbing them with their noise and movement. Hang it in a fairly sheltered position as wind and rain will soon remove the corn syrup and birdseeds. Happy Creating |
