Clorox BathWand is an All-in-one system for easy tub and shower cleaning.
It's claims:
1) Extends your reach by 2 feet or those hard-to-clean areas.
2) Ready to use for a faster clean - no spraying or waiting.
3) Swiveling head conforms to surfaces
4) Disposable, Scrubby pad loaded with powerful Clorox Cleaner.
Packaging:
The Clorox BathWand comes in a medium sized box, about the size of a small box of dry cereal. You see a fully attached bathwand on the front all bubbled up and ready to go. The picture is appealing and gives you the thought that this is the magical tool that you need to clean your bathtub/shower. If you turn the box over, on the back are directions for assembling your new bathwand, directions for use, and various cautions such as avoiding prolonged skin contact and warnings against combining with other cleaning chemicals such as bleach or ammonia.
Pieces and Assembly:
Inside the box, the BathWand comes disassembled in 3 pieces. There is the two pieces to the pole and the head. There is also a hook for hanging your BathWand and two disposable sponges that according to the package are loaded with cleaner.
The wand's ergonomically designed handle screws together without much hassle, once twisted fully, a slight click is heard as the unit locks in place permanently. The head snaps into the handle easily, just make sure that you remember to snap it in with the Clorox logo pointed up. The sponges are individually wrapped to make for easy storage. Once unwrapping sponge, you will notice there is a scrubber side and a soft fluffy side, this soft fluffy side sticks to the bathwand like Velcro. Just press sponge to wand head, wet with water and it is ready to go.
I am not a very mechanically inclined person and the assembly of this product was extremely easy.
My experience using the Clorox BathWand:
Test Bathroom #1, My Master Bathroom:
My master bathroom only has a shower, no tub. The shower has smooth walls, rounded corners and a completely clear glass door. As mentioned above the assembly as easy and my Clorox BathWand was ready to use. I wet the sponge by turning on the faucet in my shower. I am very sensitive to chemicals so I was pleasantly surprised when I found that the odor and fumes were not that strong in the beginning. This changed however as they started to build up in the bathroom, but it was helped with a running fan and an open window. Someone who doesn't follow those steps might experience a stronger odor immediately. The sponge lathered well and seemed to have an adequate amount of cleaning solution for the job at hand.
Normally I would have to climb into my shower become a contortionist to clean the bottom and lower sides while at the same time trying not to come into contact with the cleaning solution, but with the Clorox BathWand, this was not needed. I was able to scrub my shower with ease. I was extremely pleased with how it cleaned my shower door. This is a process I dread because I have to spray the door with soap scum remover, wipe and dry then apply Windex and clean immediately so there are no streaks. The BathWand cleaned the glass easily, no added pressure was needed and once rinsed and dried, the glass was completely clear again without any noticeable streaks.
I did have a few problems however. My shower corners are rounded. The Clorox BathWand was not really able to clean the corners as well as I would have liked. If you have a shower with 90 degree angles, you probably wouldn't experience this problem, but for me, it was quite frustrating since I had to grab a sponge and finish up the job. Another is that even though I clean my shower often, I still have some tough soap scum. While the BathWand did a fairly good job at removing most of it, I don't feel that it did as well as it could have. I had to do a second cleaning the next day to rid my shower of the rest of the soap scum.
Test Bathroom #2, Kids/Guest Bathroom:
Since the sponge still had some solution left, I decided to try the Clorox
BathWand out on a bathtub/shower combo. My guest/kid's bathroom gets a lot of use. Because I have two young children that always manage to get quite dirty during the day and like to splash while bathing, the tub and the shower walls need to be cleaned often. Cleaning the walls require climbing into the tub and scrubbing while cleaning the tub itself is backbreaking work. Lots of bending down and once again having to become a contortionist since the tub is next to the commode. To clean that side of the bathtub I have to lean over and twist my side. Uncomfortable to say the least.
The BathWand made cleaning the walls a lot easier. I did not have to step into the bathtub and was easily able to wash the walls. Once again there were those pesky rounded corners again though and I had to finish up that step with a fresh sponge. The tub was also a lot easier. I did not have to turn it into a circus act and was easily able to wash the tub and remove everything right down to the ring of dirt leftover from my toddler son's last bath.
Note : Neither of my bathrooms have tiles around the bathing area, so I cannot vouch for how well the Clorox BathWand would clean tile and grout.
What I liked about the product :
I liked how comfortable it was to use this product. It really did help me get the extra reach that I needed to clean my shower walls and also clean the tub without having to twist my body around. The cleanser and sponge worked well together and I was able to remove most of the soap scum without much actual scrubbing. The best part was how well it did on my glass door. Perfectly clean without any streaks left behind.
What I disliked about the product :
While the Clorox BathWand worked quite well on everyday dirt and soap scum, it was not able to remove some of the harder spots. Also there was the problem with rounded corners. To do a thorough clean of both my shower and my bathtub, I had to go back the next day and clean with a regular sponge and cleaning solution.
Also when storing the BathWand, I found it to take up a lot of space.
Once connected, the handle becomes permanently attached, so really you must be able to hang it somewhere. Oh, great use for the hook, right? Nope. The hook is completely useless causing the wand to fall off any time it is placed on to hang.
There is also the issue with these sponges being disposable. I felt guilty throwing the sponge away knowing just how much garbage it would add up to if I added these to my weekly cleaning routine. We currently live in a disposable society where everything is supposed to be used once and then thrown away. It does make things easier, but is it all really worth it?
Cost can also be an issue. One wand with two refills cost about $10 and a box of 5 refill sponges cost around $4.00. That is $0.80 a piece. Doesn't sound like much, but I can see how it would add up. Not sure if it is worth it to me if they were something I would use a lot.
Does it the product meet it's claims :
Extends your reach by 2 feet or those hard-to-clean areas.
Yes, I would have to admit that the long handle made my cleaning job much easier. I enjoyed being able to clean all the areas (besides the corners - see dislikes) without much bending and twisting.
Ready to use for a faster clean - no spraying or waiting.
I found this product easy and fast to use. Just wet, scrub, and rinse.
Swiveling head conforms to surfaces.
I agree with this only to a certain extent. While it was easy to move the head along the surfaces, the sponge/head certainly did NOT conform to my corners. I had to rewash those the next day.
Disposable, Scrubby pad loaded with powerful Clorox Cleaner.
It is certainly disposable and The sponge did lather well. It also seemed to have an adequate amount of cleaning solution, I wouldn't' say that it was loaded but it was definitely enough to do the 2 jobs that I had in mind.
Would I buy this product again :
Being that have the wand, I might occasionally buy a refill kit if they happen to be on sale and I have coupons. I don't see myself using this every week, but once a month I don't think would be too bad. If I did not have the wand, I don't think that based on this experience I would go out and pay $10 for it.
Bottom Line :
Great idea, but falls short of my expectations. I expected a better performing product for the amount of money that it costs.
