Bras, Panties & Delicates Are All Protected Thanks to Woolite’s “Bra Wash Bag”!
Written: Jun 01 '05
Pros:Protects delicates from getting damaged, allows for a deep but gentle cleaning.
Cons:Bags get discolored after a lot of use.
The Bottom Line: Sick of having your bras and panties getting destroyed in the washer? Toss them in this and end the game of “untangle the bra straps”.
Even though most of the bras that I own are sport bras I do have some high priced designer types that I wear from time to time. Most of these cost between twenty to thirty dollars and to some people that is cheap to me that is a huge chunk of money to spend on something that might get worn five or six times a year so I want to make sure that they dont get destroyed if I toss them in the washer. A few of these are underwire and unless I have unusually bad luck with these types of bras - they always seem to get tangled up with everything else in the machine. More often than not the straps get wrapped around everything else and I have to play this game of unwrapping and untangling things to get the clothes out of the machine. I had some smaller laundry bags that I used for my hair scrunchies and thongs but I never had one that was made just for bras. I wont say that this is something that is going to change the way that you do laundry but I will say that it does help keep bras and other delicates from getting stretched out or tangled up when you toss them in with other clothes.
Evercare Woolite Bra Wash Bag
This is a mesh bag that has a double pocket system inside it; its designed to hold delicate things in place while allowing water and detergent to penetrate it to clean whatever you place inside. You can use any type of detergent with this but Woolite recommends that you use their product for the best result. Maybe I am cheap but there is no way I am going to waste an entire load of water, the electricity to run the machine and my time to wash something separately. This gets tossed in the washer with every thing else; the only reason that I purchased this was because I was sick of having to untangle things and dealing with my bra straps getting sucked under the fins of the rotating blade of the washing machine. There is enough room inside the bag for two bras or a couple pairs of panties but you can also wash nylons, camisoles, stockings and more inside these bags.
The zipper on the top of the bag stays shut while it is in the washer and I have never had a problem with it coming open even an inch. This should be tossed in the dryer because the heat wont be able to dry the items inside the bag. This is a nice alternative to having to hand wash things in the sink so guys, if you are sick and tired of seeing nylons and bras hanging from the shower rod, pick up a few of these for that special lady in your life. I found these at Target in the laundry section but I am sure that you could find them at places like Wal-mart and K-Mart. You do pay a little more for the Woolite name to be on the package but after using other ones I can say that they are most definately worth the couple of extra cents. They dont rip or stretch out of place and you can fold them up when you are done with them and toss them on a laundry cart until they are needed.
How To Use
First off, you dont want to stuff this bag fill of things; it will hold one or two bras or a few pair of panties but thats it. If you over stuff it or start jamming things into it the water wont get to it and chances are the soap that makes contact with it wont get washed out of the clothing. This can lead to irritation and some uncomfortable moments! Just put your delicates into the bag, make sure that the bras are closed and toss it into your washing machine. You can use any type of laundry detergent with this but like I said, make sure that the items are loosely fit into it or they wont get as clean as they should. There are two pockets to the one that I have so this protects items even more. They do sell a single pocket version that works just as well but I like the double pocket one so there is a separation and things get as clean as possible. You will want to remove the items from the bag before you dry them; if they are bras then allow them to air dry or toss them in the dryer for a few minutes with a softener sheet then let them air dry.
Cost
I picked this up for $2.99 but I have seen them for as much as $3.99. This is the double pocket version but surprise, surprise, the single pocket version sells for the same price. Is it worth it? If you have small or delicate things you want to keep safe then it is. This is also great for hair ties, scrunchies and pony tail holders; it helps to keep them clean and removes any built up grease from hair, gel and mousse. There are cheaper ones on the market but they tend to fall apart after a while or they rip easily when you forget to clasp a bra before you toss it in the bag. The mesh on this is tightly woven but not so much so that water cant penetrate it and clean what is inside.
The Bottom Line
This isnt just for bras; you can use it for swimsuits, panties, delicate items and - as strange as it sounds - Lego pieces. When they get dirty I toss them in one of these bags and put them in the sink to soak or toss them in the top rack of the dishwasher. I usually have older bags that I dont use for clothes any more and they get recycled to clean Lego bricks as well as other toys that get dirty from grubby hands. These bags will last about twenty washes before they need to be replaced but most of the time they dont really need to be replaced; they get a little dirty looking from being in the wash over and over but you can still use them for other things around the house. It always struck me as a little odd that something that these get a little funky looking after being used; you would think they would retain that same bright white color since they are being washed but I guess the material absorbs some of the dyes that come out in the wash cycle.
As always, thanks for the read!
