I used Proflowers.com several times before coming to the conclusion that they are not really a great deal overall. At first glance, they seem to be priced wonderfully compared to others. They also have great selection and a nice site.
I used them for quite some time to send my mother flowers since she lives several states over. I thought the idea of having a florist who works so closely with the growers was nice. Soon I shared the secret with my husband who ordered us some arrangements for the holidays and for me every once in a while. I hadn't realized until receiving the flowers myself that they come without being arranged at all and the vase is sent completely separate from the flowers. I guess I just assumed they would arrive the traditional way since I'd never seen otherwise.
Not a big problem and I figured if we saved a bit each time, I didn't mind trimming and arranging them myself despite the added little mess.
Then came Thanksgiving. We'd ordered a couple of autumn arrangements for decor since the entire family was to spend the day at our house. They arrived damaged and wilting! I immediately called Proflowers and the representative was very helpful and friendly. She appologized and I couldn't have asked for better customer service. Unfortunately the product was inexcusable and we would not receive our replacements until the following day. Thank goodness I ordered them to arrive early.
The replacements arrived fine but we were still charged full price and offered nothing to tell us our business was valued or compensate the bad experience. This is fine and the fact that the original order was replaced with no questions asked is enough, but most businesses will waive the charge for that order or offer you something on your next order if not send something complimentary. With all of the competition out there, I'd think Proflowers would be without exception, but apparently not.
Quality: When the flowers arrive healthy as they should, the quality is average. Nothing extraordinary. The vases are cheap and not worth the extra fee. Packaging is high quality and FedEx works well with the parishable goods.
Selection: The available flower types range from traditional carnations and roses to exotics like orchids and even money trees. They also have some less common types like Peruvian roses which are small colorful roses. Also offered are gift baskets, wreaths, fresh fruits and chocolates, though I've only used Proflowers.com for flowers. The vases offered are very limited. Basically you can choose a cheap glass vase, which I have received and did not care for, or you can upgrade the added vase for yet another fee and receive the vase pictured on the website with the flowers. The upgraded vase generally coordinates with the flower arrangement being viewed.
They are affiliated with Cherry Moon Farms which offers the Fresh Fruit selection and Upton Prime which offers Premium Steaks. I've not experienced these companies.
I compare Proflowers to buying something at Costco or Sam's Club. You may get it a bit cheaper, but you don't get your groceries bagged and it feels a bit more like work. I guess if you order a ton of flowers your savings may become worth while, but otherwise paying a couple of extra bucks elsewhere (Conroysflowers.com is beautiful and has/works with local Conroys nationwide) will really go a long way in presentation and pleasantry.
After all, once you add in the $10 for a vase and $11.00 for shipping, you end up with the pricepoint of better known florists who deliver the bouquet prearranged and hand delivered.
If you hate any frills and really ONLY want FLOWERS nothing else - no vase, arrangement, etc - then perhaps Proflowers is your match.
