Re: tribeca's space (Reply to this comment)

I'm rating it as an SUV. As an SUV, I expect it to be able to haul things. It doesn't. Those flimsy trays over the "hidden" compartments will definitely collapse. And while what you say about cargo capacity might be true, the back of the Tribeca is "narrow", hard to fit bulk items into it. I just don't see being able to use it as an SUV.
As to the second row being able to slide foward to give the back leg room. Doing so will just make it livable for midgets in the FRONT as well as in the BACK. Sorry, 7 passenger seating is a lie.

tribeca's space (Reply to this comment)

First off, this class of vehicles is not a minivan replacement... no crossover SUVs carry 6-8 people like a minivan can. It's like writing a review of a minivan and complaining how it doesn't have traction in snow, handles like... well, like a minivan... and bottoms out over Forest Service roads.
Tribeca's second row slides forward or back 8". When it's all the way back it rests against the third row, allowing second-row legroom that's among the best out there. When you need to carry an extra body in a pinch, scoot the second row forward 4" or even 8" to allow temporary seating in the 3rd row (or seating for kids).
Tribeca's maximum cargo capacity is 74.4 cubic feet, compared to Forester's 64.1. Tribeca's capacity is about 15% greater.
