Mindspring Not So Bad After All

Pros: Quick connections and usually fast service
Cons: Junk email, slowing connections now that DSL is offered
The Bottom Line: Mindspring has some annoyances, but these become minor in comparison to other companies.

I recently left Mindspring because my husband convinced me we were getting poor customer service and now we both really regret it. I’d been using it for years without many problems. I could almost always get on and never got a busy signal. The service used to always be fast as well and I was automatically billed electronically out of my checking account.
Occasionally the server would evidently be down and my husband would call about it. Every single time the customer service rep would deny that Mindspring was having a problem and would blame it on our computer. This always infuriated my husband who knows a lot about computers. He felt that they were always lying to him and he did not want us using a company that could never be truthful about having a problem.
As time passed the sudden disconnections became more frequent even when I was actively online. Along with that we began to be bombarded with emails about Mindspring’s new DSL service. At about the same time it seemed that our connections were getting slower and slower as if this were being done on purpose to encourage our decision to switch to they’re DSL. I can’t know if this was really the case, but after they messed up our bank account by accidentally double billing us one month, we finally decided it was time to try someone else. The problems we’ve experienced ever since with another provider have made us yearn for our old Mindspring days again. Now that we know what else is out there we see that Mindspring was pretty great service after all. The few problems we dealt with back then were nothing compared to what we have to put up with now.
