Some Good Picks (Reply to this comment)

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (with Sutherland) is still one of my favorites, but you mentioned quite a few others that I love. I was really enjoying the quotes you were putting with each film. Why did you stop?

Skewed towards more recent fare... (Reply to this comment)

But, hey, it's your list and that's cool. Might I recommend some older films, though?

You might want to check out the original The Thing by Howard Hawks (although Christian Nyby gets directorial credit). I saw the remake and John Carpenter only adds special effects dreck (in my opinion, of course).

Another terrific alien movie would be The Day the Earth Stood Still which is a must-see in this category.

The Abyss, Independence Day, and Predator are in my top ten also, as well as MIB -- nicely done :)

Enemy mine has no choice but to be good, all Asimov stuff turns out well...

The day THe Earth stood still should have taken the place of Independance day(yuk) and pretty much I would agree with you carbon copy.

Independance day sucked serious flabby butt cakes.

My husband and I saw it one night at home and we just couldn't stop laughing. Of course the jokes were best enjoyed by those who love sci-fi films and that is us. We thoroughly enjoyed that movie. That reminds me that I do want to rent it.

Thanks!

Great List of Modern Era Sci Fi Flicks (Reply to this comment)
by Howard_Creech
I've seen every one of the flicks on your list, and they're all good ones. I'm a big John Carpenter fan and you've listed two of my favorites. "The Thing" (the 1982 version was a remake of a 1950 Sci Fi flick directed by Howard Hawks the original "The Thing" is super too) and "Starman" is one of my favorites (Jeff Bridges is always good). "Enemy Mine" was a good movie that almost everyone missed. If you love Sci Fi you owe it to yourself to see some of the great Sci Fi flicks from the 50's (a decade that produced some of the greatest Sci Fi movies ever...stuff like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" "Them" and "It came from outer space") Keep up the good work. Nonetheless, you need to consider "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie. It has to at least make the honorable mention list.

And what? No "Plan 9 From Outer Space!" Just kidding.

Great Lists.

Enemy Mine was a surprisingly good movie. I am not a big fan of Quaid but loved the film.

Good selections.
