| ke8yy's Full Review: Panasonic SV-AV50 Flash Memory Digital Camcorder |
The SV-AV50 is a very attractive little package, and the kind of thing that's easy to slip into a shirt pocket, ready to capture a quick voice memo, a photo, or a video clip. And when it's not doing any of these things, it's an MP3 player, too. The problem is that it's way out of date.
You can get a much, much smaller (and cheaper) MP3 player for a fraction of the price, 2Mpixel pocket sized cameras with far more functionality are available cheaply, and as a movie camera, the SV-AV50 leaves much to be desired. The images aren't even good enough for full screen display on a 15" monitor, and file transfer requires the proprietary Panasonic software. Once the files have been read by the Panasonic software you can convert them to standard MPEG4 files, but you must use that special software firt. You can't even copy files off the SD card without the Panasonic software- Windows sees them as corrupt.
I bought mine used at a fraction of the original price, and even so, I'm disappointed. Look for it on Ebay soon.
