The Bottom Line If movies are good enough any guy, except maybe Charles Manson, will come tears. For their defense here are the top 10 excuses for guys crying in movie houses.
A test of a really good tragedy movie is that it be a movie with heart, and can be measured by its ability to make a guy fight back the tears. I give you the Top Ten Tragedy Movies that made me fight back the tears : 1-Old Yeller I remember going to the movies as a small boy to see this movie. When Yeller was put to sleep I fought back the tears by making fun of my two sisters as they cried their eyes out. When we got home I ran straight to my room and cried my eyes out. Don't tell my sisters. We'll keep this our little secret. 2-Bambi I believe I was in the third grade when I went to see this movie. When Bambi lost her Mother I cried. I don't care, I cried. Of course I blamed it on Tweety our canary, dying just before we went to the show. When anyone loses one of their parents it is sad. 3-E.T. I was certainly an adult when this movie hit the screens, but I almost cried as my little five year old daughter broke into tears as E.T. neared death. 4-The Perfect Storm Real life tragedies that are made into film releases always yield a higher level emotion. The viewer knows that whatever emotion they are feeling have been experienced in the lives of real people not just in actors minds. I actually went into this movie not knowing how exactly it was going to end, as I had missed all the news related reports that the storm had spawned. This was one of the saddest ocean related movie I can remember sitting through, second only to the movie Titantic. 5-Titanic I viewed this movie right after going to the Titanic Museum Display. The museum set the mood and the movie let us be there as the gigantic vessel sank and so many lives were ended. Many lives could have been saved if the whole evacuation had been handled a bit better. The Titanic sinking has held a mystique over me ever since I was young. Seeing a part of that which had been recovered from the depths of the ocean floor and the newest version of Titanic was enough to bring tears to any real man's eyes. 6-Enemy Mine When two natural enemies were shot down by each other at the same time, they were thrust onto a planet that was hostile environment to both. Survival became the ultimate goal and they teamed up so each might survive. To me this movie had a message that was not about aliens, but rather about man's inability to learn to live together. The ending of this movie makes me tear up no matter how many times I see it. 7-The King and I I saw this as a young teen and recall the emotions that I had when the King died. For being a tough old bird, the King really had a tender heart. 8-Cramer vs Cramer It's not fair to pit the emotions of an audience against a kid. Kids can evoke tears better than dogs getting killed. This film dealt with situations that men and women have encountered and did so in a believable manner. The love and the degree of sacrifice the parents make for the child is so real that it clutches your heart and makes you feel the emotion. 9-Green Mile The acting in this movie was so moving that if one's emotions wasn't touched, the viewer most likely is android. When the electricity was at it's highest, this movie sent a charge through the whole audience. If you haven't seen this one, do! 10-Simon Birch I saved the best for last. This movie tugs at your heart string from the very beginning all the way to the end. I loved this movie, and actually felt good about the tears in my tears when viewing it. I regret I don't own it in DVD as yet, but I assure you I will! Top Ten Excuses For A Guy Caught Crying in a Movie: 1. Those are not tears, I have a sight cold. 2. Sssh! There not real l tears, I am trying to make my girlfriend think I'm the sensitive type. 3. I'm getting in touch with my female side. 4. Excuse me, but my dog Spot that I have had since I was six died today. 5. She ate my pop corn! 6. My eyes are sweating, leave me alone. 7. I was thinking about the fact that I could have gone to the fights instead of this stupid movie. 8. The usher stepped on my toe. 9. Those aren't tears! I think it's raining and the ceiling has sprung a leak. 10. Yes! It's a tear! I just had a flashback of when Bambi's Mom got shot. Greenspan |
