My title says it all. AT&T to Cingular. Recently I attempted to right a wrong with the "new" supposedly improved Cingular. I was not doing it for myself, but for a friend that has had an extreamly bad experience with Cingular. First of all, did you know that your contract you "had" with AT&T is no longer a valid contract as far as its content. Cingular purchased your contract, but will not honor it if you loose or break your existing AT&T phone. My friend recently made a cell phone call from the northwest region of Washington State. Victoria Canada was only about 3 miles away across the San Juan Defuca, which is a narrow passage way from the Puget Sound where Seattle lies and the pacific ocean. Instead of the signal bouncing off of a US tower, it was bounced off of a tower in Victoria Canada. She was charged international rates for that call. She called Cingular's customer service and they brushed her off and would not rectify the situation. AT&T would have fixed that in a second. I called Cingular's customer service on her behalf after she had tried everything. Now I was the Jerk. They would not even listen to me, however, in the past I have done the same thing for others when AT&T was running the show and their customer service personel were kind, courteous, and have always helped in one way, shape, or form. My friend also bought a new phone because her old digital phone was not working to well. She found out the hard way that her old contract with AT&T was no good anymore. She had to buy the new phone at full price, and then sign a new contract with Cingular, loosing all those minutes she had negotiated for as a good AT&T customer. When I called Cingular to help her with this matter, the representative told me that he could do nothing. Here is the good part,. A guy named Paul Gibson (customer service rep for Cingular) said to me. "So what should we do, make one more AT&T phone just for your friend so she can retain her old AT&T plan". I just said to him, you arrogent SOB. There is nothing I hate worse than a smart donkey. He replied by saying "What are you going to do about it". Folks, I am warning you now, get out while you can. I guess Cingular has failed to recognize that there is plently of competition out there, and that competition will treat you right. I plan on changing my carrier the day my contract runs out with Cingular. I have "never" experiances such rudeness from a customer service department in my life. The product is only as good as it's service department. Just to let you know. I'm not blowing steam here. I have been a loyal AT&T customer for about 5 years now. I have never been late on a payment nor have I never asked for anything on my own behalf. This is how Cingular treats their new client base that I would think that they would want to keep.
