Cozy for newborn but not good for older baby

Pros:Easy to use; Cozy but not overwhelming for newborns; Not bulky or hot
Cons:Not adjustable or secure enough for older baby; Not good to nurse in
The Bottom Line: Easy to use and good for young babies. Not adjustable enough for older babies and not good to nurse in. I'm disappointed I had to buy a different sling.

I had the New Native since my daughter was born and found it good for a first sling. It was easy to figure out how to use and easy to put the baby into. It is very easy to fit into the diaper bag and I like how you can adjust the baby from sitting up to laying down by moving the sling on your body instead of moving the sleeping baby. It was great for my daughter as a newborn, there wasn't a lot of fabric to fuss with or "smother" her. My husband didn't mind using it either. The seam in it made a nice pouch for baby's little bottom and it was easy to tell if she was in right. I liked that I could bend over securely with both hands free to load the dishwasher. My daughter was very cozy in it and went usually went to sleep after 10 min of walking around even though she was very collicky.

Now for the down side.....

I could nurse discreetly in it. I had to put a blanket over her to stay covered once she started fussing with my clothes. I now have a NoJo and can nurse while walking around and no one can tell. I think the Med. was too large for me because it hung at my waist. I never got around to sewing a seam at the shoulder like they recommend, and it hurt my back when I did housework with her in it. She is very petite at 16lbs and 11 months and she is too squashed when trying to lay down in it. She's very grabby these days and is not secure in the kangaroo carry or even sitting sideways. The hip carry works ok, but she can lean back too far because she hangs too low. Basically it's just not adjustable or roomy enough for an active older baby. It will probably be good again for the hip carry when she is a bigger toddler and gets tired of walking.

I really like my NoJo much better than the New Native because it's adjustable. I'm not sure how good it would have been with a newborn, but I know it would have been more useful when baby was a little older and I'm sorry I waited this long to get a different sling. We'll see if the padding makes us roast in the summer! I think I'll keep my New Native in the diaper bag for "emergency" use.
