I've been on Pleasant Holidays email advertising list ever since I entered a contest they promoted on "Wheel of Fortune". Back in early January I received an email titled "Hawaii Last Minute Packages from $299" - hotel and airfare from LA. I was intrigued. I checked the prices from my city for a longer period of time. For a nonstop flight on Hawaiian airlines from Phoenix and 5 nights at the Ohana Maile Skycourt the total price was $577 (just a note- I checked the same days for flight + same hotel on Expedia and they wanted over $200 more for essentially the same package). I thought this was a good deal so I booked it. I promptly received 2 emails confirming my itinerary which included not only a flight reservation and hotel accommodations but a lei greeting in Honolulu and breakfast the morning after my arrival. I was a little skeptical as to how this package could be so inexpensive. I thought perhaps I was going to get there and they were going to try and sell me a timeshare. I was skeptical...
My vacation day arrived and I headed to the airport. There were no problems with my flight and Hawaiian is a very nice airline. I could have saved some money if I had taken a different flight and changed planes in LA but I thought it was worth $40 to have a nonstop flight. I arrived in Honolulu and a Pleasant Holidays representative was standing outside the gate. She had a lei for me (not necessary but nice) and was very concerned that I knew how to get to the hotel. I showed her my maps and she reminded me to go to the breakfast the next morning.
I rented a car (not through Pleasant Holidays) and headed to the hotel. If you want a more extensive review check "Ohana Maile Skycourt" but overall I was extremely satisfied for the price I paid. I did go to the orientation breakfast sponsored by Pleasant Holidays the next morning. They presented a bunch of tours that you could take of the island. The prices seemed neither high nor low compared to the prices I had seen at the hotel activities desk. They also told the group about a timeshare presentation we could take that would give us a $100 credit towards an activity booked through them - thus $230 trip to another island would be $130 if we went to a timeshare presentation. There was no pressure associated with this it was more like, hey, if you want to do this here's where you can go but if you don't we don't care either. The presentation was cute and the woman who was hosting it had a lot of personality. Interestingly enough she encouraged us to go to the Big Island because she said she had a feeling something spectacular was about to happen. When I returned home I read on CNN.com that there had been lava flows in new places on the Big Island and that is was really extraordinary. Too bad I missed it!
Overall I was extremely satisfied with Pleasant Holidays. If I saw another vacation at a ridiculous good price I would not hesitate to book it.
