The Bottom Line 10 great films any true movie lover would enjoy!
Rather than try to be something I'm not, and truely pick the timeless classics and tell you why they are the best movies of all time, I will list to you my personal picks for 10 best movies of my time. These movies are ones most anyone can watch and enjoy, and I hope you enjoy my thoughts on them. I will just write my thoughts on my top 5, the last 5 aren't quite as recognized as the first ones.
------------------------------------------------------------
10. Hackers
9. The Matrix
8. The Big Lebowski
7. Half Baked
6. White men Can't Jump
5. Requiem for a Dream - This movie is the story of four drug addicted people. It received very little box office glory, but the critics hailed it, as do I. It's one of the most unsettling portraits of drug addiction ever put to film. It's imagery is haunting and is full of amazing performances and beautiful imagery that will haunt you for days after you've seen it.
4. Terminator 2: Judgement Day - Quite possibly the best sequal ever put to screen. This is one rare sequal that you can say is better or as good as the original. With a captivating story and of course Arnie, this is one of the few films that will be remembered long after many other films like it have faded from memory.
3. Gladiator - Truely a movie that grabs you from the start with the strong presence of maximus played by Russell Crowe. The story of one man's fight for freedom transforms into a universal story that transcends time. Set in the era of the Roman Colliseum, the battle scenes are amazingly handled, with close combat swordplay and bravery. Gladiator stood out from the pack because of its rich characters, beautiful direction, and a story that can shake you down to your core.
2. The Shawshank Redemption - This movie I believe is the quintessential prison film and has proven to be the best movie ever made about the prisoners that interact together. What truly makes this movie an amazing event is that it’s slow burning build takes you in, the characterization is beautiful, from the two key actors to the supporting players. This film was truely a marvel of filmmaking.
1. Braveheart - In Mel Gibson's rousing epic Braveheart, you feel the heart and soul of one man's quest to free Scotland from English rule. This to me, is one of the most memorable movies ever made, and as you come to the end, and Mel Gibson's last breathe fades away proclaiming FREEEEEEDOMMMMMM as he dies, I feel as if I almost knew the character. The true testiment to this movie is that it moves you to emotions that very few cineamatic endeavors can. Making it a truely great movie.
Hope you enjoyed my commentary. Thanx for reading. :)
